Wish I could say I am doing well....I'm not.  But I am trying to deal a day at a time.  Finding myself filling the emptiness with food (carbs), and that's scarey. But, one must keep on keeping on............

Thanks for all of you *****sponded to the over 60 question.  Your comments were helpful and inspirational.  I will look at more of the scientific articles since I have access to Pub Med.  Much appreciation.

I am 64 and had the VSG 12/4/07.  My BMI was 33 and is now 27 - I have done well and had no major problems.   I wish I could take off the weight a little faster but am glad I had the VSG done.  My goal is BMI 23 but I may raise it a little depending on the condition of my skin.  My blood pressure meds have been cut in 1/2 and my allergies are much better.   Good luck to you.  I would think the VSG is the way to go for you with your BMI and no co-morbid conditions.  Why risk the  consequences of the Roux en Y when a VSG has no malabsorbtion issues.   Donna

Thank you Donna, you've reminded me again of some of the risk factors of the RNY.  Good luck on your weight loss.

I will be 64 in a couple of days.  I had my VSG in July 07 and my BMI was 72.  I have lost 112 pounds and now have a BMI  of 52.   I still have quite a bit more to lose but I am feeling fine and have had no complications.  Several of my meds have been  lowered or stopped also.  Rose

Thank you Rose, you are very inspiring.  I now am seriously considering the VSG rather than the RNY.
