Packing for hospital!

Did you see harris2's post awhile back about the abdominal wrap?  I didn't have one, but, I think it would have been REALLY helpful.  Also, I toted a bunch of stuff I didn't use.  The only thing I really needed was my Carmex (addict here) and my photo album.  Looking at my baby was wonderful.  I also enjoyed my MP3 player.  I had it loaded with a guided imagery CD for recovery from surgery.  Very relaxing.  And they didn't let me use my heating pad either.  They brought around the occasional thermapac.  I wish I would have brought my own supply.  Some of the gas pains were quite sharp and the heat was soothing.  Maybe grab a few at Walmart before you check in.  That way, you don't have to keep asking the nurses for things.  Most of the time they are super busy and can't get back to you right away.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I read about the abdominal binder and asked my doc about it.  He said he'd order one for me if I reminded him.  But I wish I'd known sooner.  I'd have bought my own. Hospitals always charge like 10x what it costs if you buy it yourself.  L

Hi!  Wow; it's really going to happen!  Good ideas here.  I took a heating pad but did not use it; I also took two books, one a novel and the other a devotional type book that had 2 page "stories"; was nice to read something short that didn't involve a lot of focusing though I was reading the novel soon afterwards as well. Slippers or flip flops; a phone list of important people to call; I took some peppermint oil as I read that it helps with nause, I used it preventatively on the day I left the hospital.  A warm wash cloth sure felt good on the hand that had the IV, lotion as well.  Right before usrgery, when I was getting nervous, I found a letter my daughter wrote to me;  it was so reassuring and gave me that extra courage and peace I needed right then.  Maybe you could plant something like that. I hope and pray it goes wonderfully for you.  Can't wait to hear that it has.  Love, Susan

I took my long handled back scratcher.  It came in handy cause some of those pain meds made me a little "itchy".  Especially down by my feet where they had those "pumps" on my legs.  I think everyone else has covered the rest of the stuff you might need.  Brooke

Prayers coming, sleeve sis!  Over on the surgery date forum, we have a topic for May 12, and a few people are posting there, so if you see this, post there as well.  We'll have a big family! L
