Cholesterol/Triglyceride levels

I was reviewing my 3 month levels for Cholesterol and Triglycerides. It seems as if some of my numbers have gotten worse.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if it is because of the high protein diet?

They didnt mention it at all at my 3 month post op appt yesterday. But I see my PCP on Friday for my yearly physical and I know she is going to wonder about it.

My theory is the breakdown of fat in the body at such a rapid rate can increase cholesterol.

Just a theory.

Kelly,

That whole cholesterol /triglyceride thing you gotta get in line behind me...I am still in awe of how bad mine got...just in awe...

The first month on liquids mine went down to 219..that is the best it has been in a long time...
The three month it went up to 266 then at my six month it went to 277...LOL I played with my diet the entire time to try and eliminate the higher cholesterol meats...

I just need to stay a vegetarian...without the tofu...LOL or less of it...

Hugs to you,
B

Wow! I didnt know this could happen. Is this the norm for after WLS? Before surgery I was high in the normal range so I wonder if I am back up out of range again. I hope to have insurance in the next 3 months so I can get everything checked out.

I just got my 3 month and it was out of wack too.  Mine was normal last time pre-op (total 150).  I was on vytorin for cholesterol and triglycerides.  The 3 month was 230.  I have to take the statin for cardiac reasons, but I will be off the vytorin...yeah.......

I had mine tested at 6 weeks out and it had gone down. I was so excited that I blogged about it!

I don't think there is a "normal" on this one.

I am reading a book on studies, public ones, from the dawn of time about cholesterol and meds and diets and such...so far, and I am not done, it doesn't look good for what we have been spoon fed for a long time...meaning cholesterol doesn't equate with chances of heart attacks...atherosclerosis, etc.

The book is called "Good Calories, Bad Calories"...check it out..boring but factual..

Hugs,

I called my surgeon's office today. They said it is possible at 3 months to not see those numbers going down, but then at 6 months I may see improvements. I am going to see what my PCP has to say and maybe try to avoid meds for the next 3 months and see if the levels go down without meds.
