A suggestion: Stop responding to the posts that say negative things about VSG. Let them...

I have yet to ever see a DSer say that everyone should get the DS, that the DS is the only WLS that is right for everyone, or anything like that. While many have assumed that was the intended message, it's not. Crohn's is ABSOLUTELY a reason NOT to get the DS! If someone came to me (as a soon-to-be DSer) and asked about WLS and said they had Crohn's, I wouldn't recommend the DS at all.

There absolutely are reasons to choose different procedures. The frustration comes in when, while explaining why someone chose one procedure, they bash another with false information. I can't tell you how many times I've seen such things as, "I got the [VSG, band, whatever] instead of the DS because I didn't want to have diarrhea for the rest of my life!" For pre-ops reading things like that, they then think the DS causes lifetime diarrhea, which is NOT true, and it's not fair to that pre-op to be scared away from something by someone's ignorance and spewing of lies.

 Actually, somewhere on the board, Diana did say that a pre-op went to the DS board and learned what a 'mistake' the VSG was. Perhaps she meant it was a 'mistake' for that one person -- I may have misunderstood.

Bernice I'm so glad you were able to get WLS. It is so hard to see other people getting the help that you couldn't. Thank god for the VSG. It was my only choice as well. Those few Weird DS people who post over here are fanatical, mean spirited and childi****hink its just awful how they stir everyone up. They seem to thrive on the negativity.
