How old is TOO old for WLS?????
How old is too old? When you're dead.
I'm 51. I didn't consider myself too old. Instead I worried that if I didn't have surgery now, I wouldn't get to be old. My youngest is only 10 and, if I died in my 60s like a lot of MO people do, I wouldn't have gotten to see her grow up and have a family of her own.

Jesus doesn't want me for a zombie, and He's given me free will so I can choose. I've escaped this world's snare but I don't have to be square. Oh yes, I have become a Christian but I still know how to groove!

I was 52 when I had my surgery, made goal weight in 9 months, I had border line High Bp that resolved, Sleep Apnea (Snoring) resolved, I have energy, do it while healthy and employed, Wish I'd known about this (if it had veen available) years ago. You'd finance a car, finance your health. Get a 2nd job and save what ever it takes. Not sure how long the health loans are, but I'd think 5 years (same as a car!!) Check to be sure your insurance will cover complications, you might want to get insurance for tany WLS complications, if you would not be covered on yours.
Good Luck
I was a few weeks shy of 57 when I had my surgery. I am a painfully slow loser (slower than most on here) but I have never once regretted my decision. I am only a few pounds from my surgeon's goal but have quite a way to go yet for my personal goal. Will I reach my surgeon's goal? Definitely! Will I reach mine? I sure hope so but I guess my body will have the final say about that. Not only have I lost weight, my migraines have lessened dramatically in frequency and intensity and I no longer take medication for my BP.
Not only am I glad I did this, my husband was so happy with my progress that he also had the surgery right before Christmas. He is no longer taking insulin and he is off his CPAP as his sleep apnea is greatly improved. He should be off his BP medication within the next month.
We were both self-pay as our insurance has a WLS exclusion. I wouldn't have qualified anyway as my BMI was too low. It was the best money we ever spent and neither of us regret the expense or the surgery.

Hi - you absolutely should make this investment in your future life and health! I am 63 and was 120 pounds overweight & my lifestyle was being hampered by being fat - my knees were killing me when I walked up & down stairs - I was huffing and puffing trying to even walk around shopping - was too embarassed to be seen in a swim suit - or to dance in public - hated the photos of me in my daughter's wedding pictures as the fat one in the lineup.....
So - how long do you plan to live? And do you want it to be in a healthy, thin & attractive (& sexy) body? If you go to Mexico - I've read great things about Dr. Alvarez on this message board - his fee is apx $9500. so if you live to be 90 and are in good health, that means you spread the $10,000 over 40 years - $250 a year - not including interest... pretty good deal - also you will save on eating so much less & much less probably in prescriptions, etc for all those problems obesity causes.
But - that's just my opinion of course....

Please do not let your age hold you back. This surgery doesn't have anything to do with age it has all to do with health.
Get 'er done!!!!!!! You would Never be sorry.
Good luck on your journey.
