Can anyone share their experience with this test. I don't know what to expect and i am scared. I have  never been in the hospital for anything so this whole wls is a huge experience for me. I know the Dr will be looking at my stomach but is it painful before after and are they going to put me to sleep?

This test is SO NOT A BIG DEAL.  Don't worry.  They will put you to sleep with a fast-acting drug, similar to the kind they use for colonoscopies.  After what I had been through, being rehospitalized for dehydration and the treatment for that, the EGD was NOTHING.  They just run a little scope down and look around, and when you wake up, you should feel fine.  Let me know how it goes.

Some patients who have trouble with nausea and throwing up have to have this 3 or 4 times a year to "stretch" the opening to their stomachs, and they are so used to it, they don't even dread it.

It truly is easy breezy!!!!
The worst part is the IV and that's not bad at all.  I did wake up with a slight sore throat - just a slight one.
You will be NPO (nothing by mouth) for at least 8 hours before your procedure.  They will have you come back to the Pre-Op area, give you a hospital gown and start your IV.  The doctor will stop by to check on you and soon you will be taken back to the Procedure room on your gurney.  They will ask you to lay on your left side- (I Think that's the side) and then they will  give you "something" in the IV to put you out - your out in about 15 -30 seconds and then you wake up in about 30 mins in the recovery room - a bit drowsy and thirsty.  YOU WILL NOT REMEMBER or FEEL  ANYTHING.
I'm a bit of a chicken too and I was FINE!
THE WORST PART OF THE DAY is WAITING for it to begin!

Hope everything goes well for you!

I had one last week, and the worst part about it was having to be there at 6:00 a.m.  It really is a nothing procedure.  You're down and then awake in about 5 minutes.  They are able to reverse the sedation so well now that I could have driven myself home.   Of course, they won't let you.
