Size of Sleeve

My doctor does a 110 cc sleeve but I've been reading that folks have a 55cc sleeve and believe it's better.

What size do you have?    What is your quality of life and do you struggle to keep weight off with the larger sleeve?

Do you know what size fr bougie that translates to?

Hi Rita!
Boy--I'd like an answer to this one too.  My surgeon says that he's found that using a 40 bougie and really placing the staples snug up against it is the way to go.  He states less strictures in the long run.  Now I just read on another post where Dr. Cirangle in San Francisco (I watched his video) states that using a 32 bougie is the best (and he and his partner have over 1000 VSG's under their belts).  I want to get the best weight loss--especially since this is a self-pay procedure for me.  Any comments would be appreciated by me too!

My Best,

All I know is that my surgeon (Dr. Cirangle) uses the 32f that the other poster mentions and I've had wonderful success with it.  I hated it for the first 2 or 3 months because I just couldn't eat much.  But now that I am almost 2 yrs out I am very thankful that I have such a tiny tummy!!!!  If it were any larger I'd be gaining weight back already.  Instead it's been pretty easy to keep my weight stable at 123 lbs. and I feel like I can eat a good amount (enough that I feel satisfied but not so much that I gain any weight back).

Like someone posted in another thread.  After you do the math, it appears that the difference in a 32 and 36 is just over a teaspoon.

Yes, but the resistance to flow is also a factor.  I believe Dr. Cirangle stated that it might be the more important factor.

I wouldn't worry so much about slight differences, but at some point the differences do matter.

What point is that? Well, we know EWL at 4 years out is not that good with the 48 f, so definitely anything 48 or bigger is something I would avoid.

Dr Alverez only does a 32f and I am glad. I have been sleeved for 6 months and I can still only eat about 2 oz of dense protein at a time. So when I get further out I shouldn't have problems maintaining. I'd ask for smaller, of course I never have heard the size in cc's before.

When I talked to my doctor he said he aims for about 60 ccs.  I didnt get into the size of the sleeve with him besides that

Hi,

My doctor uses a size #36 French bougie and told me that it is 90cc or 90ml (same thing).

So my calculation would be every 1 French bougie = 2.5cc or 2.5ml.

for a 28 bougie = 70cc or 70ml
for a 30 bougie = 75cc or 75ml
for a 32 bougie = 80cc or 80ml
for a 34 bougie = 85cc or 85ml

Please keep in mind that a teaspoon = 5cc or 5ml and a tablespoon = 15cc or 15ml

I hope this helps!
