Size of Sleeve

Except my manual says my sleeve is 40-60 cc and it's a 32 f.

So I don't know... I tried to figure out how big the sleeve is based on the f number and I couldn't find a definitive answer.

Mine is a 34, and I've lost a lot in 3 months-72 pounds-but I also have lots of nausea and still throw up once a week.

I wonder why so many people do NOT trust their doctors?

That's what it really comes down to, you do not trust your doctors judgement if you question his/her choices in what size to make your new stomach.

So many people appear to obcess about the bougie size, or how many cc's their new stomach will hold.  Isn't how many VSG your surgeon has done, and what kind of success they have had a LOT more important?

110 cc's is roughly the equivalent of 1/2 cup or 4 ounces.  That is not very much.

This constant comparison of stomach size reminds me of adolescent boys standing around discussing what size their anatomy is.  It isn't the size that matters, it's how you use it!

The same is true of our new stomach's.  You can eat a lot of fats, sugars, etc and sabotage your weight loss.  Or, you can choose to eat sensibly, follow a diet plan as set out by your surgeon and/or nutritionist, and you will lose weight.

I have yet to see anyone post a note here that they are gaining weight, if they actually followed their diet.

It is NOT the size of your remaining stomach that will determine how fast you lose weight.

YOUR behavior will determine how fast you lose weight, and whether or not you keep it off.

But a lot of the surgeons doing the VSG these days haven't *got* long term results to show you.

Dear Old Medic,

You're right, I don't trust my surgeon......that's why I asked the question.  Are you suggesting we should blindly follow the doctor without having as much information as possible?

I have read other posts from you in the past.  You may not realize it , but your tone is often harsh.
Give us new people a break.  We are not as far along as you are.  We should be able to ask any question on these boards without getting a scolding.

OldMEdic While I agree I "GET IT"  we spend hours and hours reading everything we can about whats about to happen to us, so we over analyze every aspect of it.

I can honestly say I have no idea what size my Dr uses and its doesn't matter because....
A its too late to change anything,
B I trusted my surgeron with my life I assume he knows more about what size to use than I ever will.

I am also really happy that I have a 32 French. The stomach DOES stretch out some, so you want to start small, I think. I just recently had a hiatal hernia repaired by Dr. Jossart (who is Dr. Cirangle's partner and did my sleeve). So he was in there and saw the size of my tummy a year and a half after surgery. He said it's now about a 40 French and may still stretch a bit more, which is normal and expected. I still have excellent restriction, which is important to me! I really feel it's helping me to maintain.

You can't do a definite Fr bougie to cc comparision because the bougie size measures the diameter only.  CCs are diameter times length.

If you believe the argument that it is the flow rate that makes the difference to success, the most important element is diameter.
