how much does VSG cost???
Mine was $9750 USD with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. I believe the average self pay price if you stay stateside would be around $12-15k. I've seen as low as $9300 and as high as $18000.
I'm sure many other self payers will pop up :)

I DID Make It - 135.4 8-1-10! Now working on post baby weight loss. (All WL post-op - preop got up to 220 from quitting smoking & last supper syndrome.) 5'2"
I paid $17,500.00 by Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco Dr. Jossart! See add above www.lapsf.com Worth every dollar!!!!! Good luck Annie
I was denied the VSG procedure but I was approved for the RnY and the Lapband. Since I didn't want the bypass or the lapband I had to do more research. Found out that Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore would have costed me $17K so I went to Mexico and paid $10K. If interested, check out: www.Ready4AChange.com. That's where I went.
My doc charges $14k for any of the surgeries - Band, RnY or VSG. In reality the sleeve should be less because it takes less time, and there isn't any appliance cost. like in the band. He said he just set a single price to make it easier. I don't think he wanted any price differential to be part of a patient's decision process.
I had the sleeve done in Mexico about 8 months ago and had a great experience. To have done the sleeve locally (phoenix area) would have been around 20K. I paid $8600 for everything except airfare to San Diego.
Yes there are US surgeons that are doing the sleeve for around 10K but with the price of airfare and having to pay for my own lodging before and after the surgery it would have been around 15K or more.
I did extensive research on Mexico in general and Tijuana and Juarez in particular. I did extensive research on surgeons before opting to go to Tijuana and using Dr C. Cost was NOT my only concern though it was a factor since I was self pay.
I have had no problems post op with reflux, GERD, eating or drinking. I was off pain meds 48 hours after surgery and back to work in 10 days though I could have gone back earlier (I have a desk job).
I have lost over 100 lbs and am off all blood pressure meds.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
The reason the sleeve is more expensive is because you are in surgery longer than the lapband procedure - 1 hour for sleeve and 1/2 hour for lapband. You're paying for the surgeons cost as well as that time for the anaesthesiologist and other medical professionals in the room.
My sleeve surgeon was Dr. Mario Almanza Reyes out of Emmanuel clinic in Tijuana. I was treated very well, had medical professionals doting on me every minute I was there. A very remarkable experience actually. Total cost including two nights at the very excellent Marriott hotel, antibiotics, pain medications, x-rays, blood work, EKG, etc., came to $9500. And 7 days post op, I feel great. The only discomfort I have is from the sutures, which are scheduled to come out in two days...
If anyone is hesistant about going to Mexico to have your procedure of choice, do your research, but honestly, I felt one hundred percent safe and well taken care of during my 4 days spent there.
