Wine anyone??

I waited 6 weeks before I had a glass of wine.  But had it I did, and I enjoyed every minute of it.  I'd wait at least that long though.  And no -- it didn't effect me any different than it did pre-op.

I Tried a sip a couple times with no problem.  Then I tried a small glass of wine 2X.... Once at New Years (1 yr out),  and again a few weeks later,   I only had about 1/3 of a small glass,  both times I had a bad reaction, Intestinal Cramping, Nausea, Dizzyness.  It was enough to make me decide I will on take a sip or 2 from my spousal unit if I really want a taste.  Can you be satisifed with just a taste???  That is a tough one.   I'd think at 6-8 weeks out it might be ok, but asking  your doc is best.    This also happend the 1 time I tried about a 1/4 of a regular soda.  I seem to be able to eat sugar, (i.e. cookies and chocolate) but the liquids are a problem, I am guessing it is more a sugar thing, than the alcohol being a problem.  My doc explained it as a rapid/premature emptying of my stomach, and then the intestines pull fluilds from the walls thus causing the cramping, and pain.

I had been concerned about transfer addiction, so I was learry of alchohol anyway, so now I am a spend-a-holic... :)!

If your tummy can tolerate it, then it's a choice like any other. You just have to weigh the pros and cons and decide if it's worth it.

In terms of weight loss, not only is it full of empty calories, but it inhibits the burning of fat, sometimes as much as up to day after you drink it.

In terms of tolerating it, generally people can by about 2-3 months. Obviously, this varies. In terms of your liver, it is hard on your liver but so it eating a lot of protein. If you drink a lot of water before and after that's going to help with the liver. So does not going overboard and having more than a glass at a time.

For me, I don't enjoy it enough for it to be worth it. I'd rather have a chocolate-covered strawberry, if I feel like eating something endulgent.

I had a glass 3 weeks out at a wedding :)  I was a cheap drunk though at that point.  Muy tolerance has built back up a little now.
