protein confessions
Hi Diane~
I'm about 9 weeks out and I am pretty diligent in meeting or exceeding my daily protein goals (70 grams recommended by surgeon). Except for the first week post-op, I have been short only a few times (3 or 4.) I also try very hard to get high quality protein (usually 3 meals of food based protein sources, like meat or cheese, and usually one protein shake, that is made with whey protein isolate vs. whey protein concentrate.) The protein bullets are incomplete proteins, so I have not used them. I admit that I miss having fruit and veggies, which when I do eat them, forces me to sacrifice the amount of protein I can eat. I know that this is not forever, so for right now I work hard to get the protein and fluids in everyday. Tracking on TheDailyPlate really helps me mange my intake.
Keep trying......everyday is a new opportunity! The protein is crucial for the healing process and adequate protein intake becomes critical if you are also restricting your carb intake, as your body will catabolize muscle if it does not get sufficient carb or proteins from your daily dietary intake! Remember that you are laying down new patterns and habits in these first months post op that will hopefully last for a lifetime. It's really important that you make yourself and your new eating behaviors the highest priority right now! Best wishes........you are in control of your health.....make it great!

Maintain daily activity levels and practice clean eating........still battling some unhealthy behaviors!
I cannot get in the required protein from just food as I never know when I am going to be able to hold everything I eat down. I am also still in the process of having 2 stomach strictures removed so my stomach holds very little. I do not restrict carbs on the advice of my nut plus I am a firm believer that carbs help create brain power. I do eat full fat foods like mayo and cheese but I don't eat breads or anything fried. I hope once the strictures are removed I can start tracking my foods and eat enough protein as well as get enough calories without relying on 1-2 high calorie, high protein shakes per day. My actual food consumption only nets me about 300 calories per day. I also have not been cleared to exercise yet with the exception of moderate walking.
I am way behind on the normal things VSGers do as far as diet and exercise due to complications. I am so looking forward to the day I can exchange high protein, low cal recipes with board members or go to eggface's website and try some of her yummy recipes.

It looks to me like you are doing great, considering all that you've been through! Congrats! You are nearing target!!!!
I am having trouble getting everything in because, ironically, without hunger I forget! I'd like to know which skim milks give 12 grams of protein, as my bariatric nurse said 8 0z of skim milk = 8 grams and then I can double it by mixing in 1/3 dry nonfat skim milk (powder).
