Those of you who lost some hair

To those who lost or had thinning hair... did you get all your protein in starting on day 1. So far I have gotten all my protein every day (60+) except for the first  day which was 50 something. I think that's pretty darn good. But I'm reading some people who are saying that they didn't get everything they were supposed to until the 2nd or 3rd week. I've even been getting all my vitamins in from day 1, and some people are saying not to worry about them til week 2 - 3!

So I'm just wondering, did those of you who lost hair get all your stuff in the first week? I'm wondering if really gettin everything in on the first week will make the difference.

I think some hair loss is a given regardless. I was on a feeding tube from day one on a high calorie, high protein concentrate and still lost some hair. Maybe not as much as others but it was still enough that I had to clean the sink eveyday. I think this is caused from the shock of the surgery. To keep the loss at a minimum I try to get in my protein. I take Biotin daily, and I only wash my hair every other to every third day. I also massage my head daily. I have enough hair that I can afford to lose a bit.

Hope this helps.

I didn't worry about it hardcore until week 3.. and I lost minimal hair.. I'd say I only lost big amounts for maybe two weeks..

I really don't think there's a rhyme or reason.. and I really don't think the biotin or the expensive products help..

It probably is a hit or miss situation on what helps. I take the biotin because it is cheap and lets me feel as if I'm doing something. I do the head massages because I read somewhere they help prevent hair loss. And I wash less frequently because it makes sense that pulling and tugging on your hair and rubbing it dry will encourage it to fall out if it is going to.

Biotin helps your nails as well. But, all-in-all I think it really is the protein as my nails grew like crazy and my hair didn't start coming out until 4 months out when I came off the feeding tube and no longer had that constant flow of protein.

I wish you well and hope your loss is minimal.

I never got in my protein until I was about 4.5-5 months out because I could not tolerate any of the protein supplements/mixes.

I didn't start losing hair until around 4 months, and it's already stopped at 6.5 months.

I don't take my biotin regularly, but I do use Folicure extra shampoo. I have 2-3 inches of new growth coming in that's popping out of the top of my hair.

I know a couple of patients who have gotten in 80-100grams of protein since day 3-4 post op, and they've lost more hair than I have.

I took my protein (80+) faithfully from day 1. I'm 3 months out and I'm noticing a lot more hair coming out. I've started on biotin and have changed to an oil based shampoo and condition. Waiting to see if it helps. I believe the hair loss is apart of the process, but I'm told it only for a short time.

My UK Surgeon doesnt really talk about protein too much as a worry. I try to get some but not got a set amount to have. I was advised that when I get to 2 months to start some Zinc supplement and also Perfectil, I guess this is like Biotin, which is good for hair, nails and teeth.
So worried I have just dyed my cherry red hair to black as always looks healthier and thicker when black and figure blumps will be less noticable.
Feel bad for my hoover though. I have lots of long hair and I already clog it

Great question - I'm not far enough out to answer, but I'm very curious.

I have gotten all my protein/vitamins in from day one.  Weird part about me is that I used to go for days without much protein prior to surgery - would only eat chicken or fish a couple of time a weeks.  So I know I am getting way more protein in than I did pre-operatively.

I am curious to see how that plays out over time.  If my hair falls out, I would think it's about the low number of calories or ferratin (iron in the tissue.)  Although I am on iron supplements as well.
