Let me introduce you to the Rants and Raves board

I just reported the two politically charged threads to the OH administrators, simply requesting that they move these threads off of the VSG board and onto the Rants and Raves (R&R) board. Hopefully they will be doing so soon. Therefore, if you're looking for a place to carry on these discussions, hop on over to the R&R board. You can find it by going to the drop-down menu for Forums --> Off Topic --> Rants and Raves.

To clarify the difference between the VSG board and the R&R board, here's the first part of the description/introduction to the R&R board in the sticky at the top of that forum:

"The Rants and Raves forum is a place for off-topic posts, threads that begin to turn into flames and a general place for you to _rant and rave_. From time to time, we will be bumping such fore mentioned posts to this forum versus completely deleting them. The Rants and Raves forum will be a more relaxed, open forum so please expect to read posts that are of a more controversial nature. This forum is great for the pursuit of entertainment and debating. However, there is no need to take your dislike for someone or your entertainment across those lines and into our forums for scrutiny and ridicule.

"If the posts within this forum are not for you, we encourage you to read and participate in one of our many other forums instead."

Please note the part that reads "we encourage you to read and participate in one of our many other forums instead." Subtext: the R&R board is the place for such off-topic debates; the other forums are NOT.

Some may say, "Just skip over those threads on here if you don't like them." Well, it's not that simple. Once we allow posts that belong on the R&R board to occupy the VSG board, our silence (by skipping over them) is compliance with such posts. Maybe it's just a couple of posts now, but at what point do we draw the line? How many ranting, disharmonious threads are too many, then? At what point do we say, "Hey, these types of political rants have driven away too many good people from posting on the VSG board! This needs to stop."?

The R&R forum exists for a purpose. If you want to rant about politics, use it, but please have enough respect to leave the VSG board out of it.

 

 

*chuckle*  I just blocked that fella who started it, because I get sick to my stomach feeling even skipping over the drama llama threads!!

Yeah, I didn't block him, but I was tempted to. I don't blame the people *****plied for continuing to reply in order to defend any attacks, etc. The one who started it all should never have posted it on this board, and it's hard to stop a rolling stone once those debates get started!

AMEN!!  I wound up blocking him too (after I received a PM calling me stupid---yes, stupid).  Also reported both threads yesterday as well as that PM. 

If politics or religion are allowed on ANY public discission forum that's not religion or politics-oriented, they they need to have their own place, such as the R&R board here.  They just don't belong here and either topic is always, ALWAYS ultimitely polarizing, people get irrational and angry, and bad things happen.  You would think that people on either side of a touchy subject would know that NOT everyone in the world shares their opinion on those topics, or wants to hear it, but a lot of people don't get it.

Well put. It's always polarizing and, therefore, not good for the board. I just hate to see active posters leave the forum/Web site over something like this. It isn't worth it!

And the name-calling PM? How ridiculous. Glad you reported it and the threads, too. 

Yep! I only responded once saying that "one thread wasn't enough for him to complain about the healthcare program??" and he PMed me saying he'd start 200 threads about it if he wanted. Then he went on to bash me, etc. I deleted it. Whatever. But, he needs to find his way to the R&R board, STAT.
