Embarassing, but I dont know if normal?

I am 15 days post surgery. I am doing well of almost all fronts.....but I am having chronic watery diarrhea. (sorry for those for which this makes uncomfortable.) I am not just talking loose...I mean watery like I've gone to Mexico watery.

My question is...has anyone had this or is anyone currently having the same issue? I thought once I got to more solid foods that this would abate, without luck. My concern is two fold...as I did travel out of the country to Belize the week immediately preceeding my surgery. (so did I get some sort of bug while there? Or is this normal post-operative bowel function?)

Please chime in with any information you might have.

Thanks for your time,

~jL

I had that for a couple of days while on liquids, but it went away when I moved to more solid food. I also had Lortab, which the pharmacist told me would make me constipated, so I think it counteracted the liquids somewhat.

I'm 2 weeks out now and having relatively normal BM's.

I also had watery stool for about a week.  Once I started on mushies, it went away but I don't have regular BMs...
just every two to three days now.

If it continues, call your doctor for advise.

can you eat yogurt yet?  If so, do!

I was thinking you need some probiotics!

Your bowel movements early out are going to be, shall we say, interesting...

Once they get more solid, you will then have to deal with constipation, green BMs (yeah, I said green) and all sorts of other irregularities.

But eventually, it all goes back to normal.

I needed yogurt cause I had been wiped out by the antibiotics they gave me fr surgery.  Once I had a couple servis of yogurt (as suggested by my nurse and doc), it got better.  It wasnt the same as liquid in, liquid out.  It was drinking and then minutes later having diarrhea of what I drank

From what I've been told your bowels go one way of the other.  I would of much preferred to have your issue, but it will even out.

Despite the suggestions above to have yogurt, are you having milk/dairy? Sometimes you develop lactose intolerance after surgery but eventually everything gets back to normal.

Thank you for all of your posts. I have been eating greek yogurt almost daily for over a week, both for protein and for the cultures in it. As for the color of the stool, it is also green, not as much now...but at one point it was shockingly so. (i never thought I would be discussing my bowel habits on an internet forum!!!!)
I think I wll got to health food store tomorrow and get some of the granules that provide cultrures as well. I also think a call to my docs office is not such a bad idea either.

Is this not a CRAZY ride we are on?
