Embarassing, but I dont know if normal?
Get some really good probiotics (like 15 - 20 billion cells pre capsule) from a health food store (like Sprouts or Whole Foods) and take them with each meal (you can try adding a capsule or two to your yogurt). I would also try adding some soluble fiber. As an IBS sufferer, I deal with the big D a lot. Those two things, and possible avoiding dairy products (switch to rice or soy if you can) should help.
Don't stress - I agree with the assessment that you need probiotics and should eat some yogurt....that definitely does help! Mine were really watery, green, and stinky (overly so) for the first few weeks....when I was in the hospital, they gave me antibiotics for c-diff (a GI bug) and that contributed as well.
It definitely does level off.....for me it went from water to constipation and then levelled out. This, too, shall pass.
Hang in there! =)

It took my body about a year to start having "normal" bm's. I went though a couple of weeks of diarrhea and then really bad constipation. However, your really need to tell your surgeon. Are you having mucus or blood in your stool? If so, you may have some type of collitis, which can be caused by several different things.
I'm three weeks post-op and had the wonderful diarrhea also. I ate yogurt, took probiotics, checked for lactose intolerance...all that stuff.
It took over two weeks for it to go away. And then, when I thought it was over I would have a bout.
It finally cleared up. it just takes the body time. Maybe it will be over for you soon. I hope so!
Oh, if you are drinking coffee, decaf or regular, I had to stop that completely for the first couple of weeks because that was the main cause, I still had loose stools/diarrhea, but it was much better without coffee, and I was drinking decaf!!
Hope you feel better soon.

Just throwing in my 2cents of pre-op IBS with severe Diarrhea advice here. As a LONG time sufferer (20 yrs) of IBS/D I found the best things to take were Align, Phillips Colon Health and AZO Yeast. Each of these has MILLIONS of cultures but of different types. They are ALL needed to 'fix' the bowels. It took about 3 months for me but I now have NORMAL BMs. Its like a fracken miracle man!! No diarrhea, no constipation, just normal. WOW! All three of the probiotics are small so taking them should not be difficult even with a new sleeve. I also don't expect it would take as long for you as it did for me. I was fixing 20 yrs of damage to my poor abused intestines. I know, I know, I preop how could I possible understand but I do hope my advice helps.
