I was also told I need to reduce my fatty liver and was on a total liquid diet for 2-1/2 weeks prior to surgery.  2-3 30g protein shakes per day plus as much water, Crystal Light, SF jello/popcicles and chicken broth as I wanted.  Yes, it is hard at first, but it was worth it.  Because now I am on liquids only for the first 4 weeks after surgery. It helped prepare me for this. If you don't want to have liquids only for 2 weeks, I would try for at  least 5 days prior to surgery. It does help your surgeon reach your stomach because they have to move your liver to get to it, at least that is what my surgeon said. Good luck.

My Doctor required the Optifast program. There's two versions there's the light and then the Full.

The Light is three shakes a day and then a sensible dinner. The Full is 4 to 5 shakes a day. I did the light for about two months and then the Full was required three weeks before surgery although I only did full for two weeks before surgery.

Via this program I lost 48 pounds before surgery.
