Did your hunger ever go away?

I know that I am a baby newb of only 5 weeks out but I was curious if people still get VERY hungry, because I do  :(

I cant eat much obviously, but my hunger always seems to be looming and I was hoping it would go away. I take my nexium 2x a day and sometimes gaviscon in between. Its not head hunger, I mean my belly actually growls....lol.

I always eat protein first ( i get 60-70g in most days) and limit my carbs and when I eat I do get full but it doesn't last that long. I drink alot of water and crystal light to get my fluids in but I don't feel satisfied for long periods of time.

Do you think perhaps I should take a different PPI? I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not....but I figured I would ask.

I guess I was just hoping I would experience that no hunger feeling that some people talk about, and it hasn't happened.

I have also lost really well in the beginning (and im not complaining), but now the scale hasn't moved in weeks. I know about the 3 week stall from seeing it posted here over and over again....lol but it does suck when it happens to you. I almost feel like this won't work for me because of my hunger and weight not coming off. Silly, I know but I can't help but think I'm broken. :/

Please smack some sense into me, and tell me that I'm thinking to much into this.

You could try a different PPI but, the ghrelin does take some time to leave your system. Some people have said they never truly lose their hunger. I can say that some days I'm absolutely NOT hungry but I do get hungry from time to time. When I do it feels very different than it did pre-surgery. I can't really describe it except for it's not the same almost panicked crushing hunger I had before my surgery.

I know for me pre-op that nexium didnt work for my gerd as well as prevacid does. Perhaps a change in meds would help...

You are not broken...keep the faith! you are doing everything right, the scale WILL move again!!

Hello, my dr told me, that Ghrelin hormone eventually will be reproduced again somewher else in the body. I don't think we are absolutely free of ghrelin hormone.

Thanks for the reply Jeanette. See the thing is for me that I DO get that OMG I need to eat or I feel sick hunger that I had pre op. I'm not a snacker or grazer but I hate to feel hunger and while I do have great restriction when I eat, it doesn't last long and I am hungry yet again. I hope that its true that the ghrelin takes time to get out of my system. Being hungry was always my problem pre op and I hope that it gets better as a post op.

It didn't go away until month 3. I was on a PPI from day one, and yes it was actualy physical hunger and not acid.

There was an article written by a surgeon about why it takes that long for the hunger to subside - it has to do with ghrelin. Someone posted it here, but I don't have the link. Just give it a little more time.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.
