Did your hunger ever go away?

Hi.  I am new to the sleeve so not an expert at all but from what I have read here sometimes it is what you eat that can cause you to be hungry and less satisfied.  Maybe if you listed a typical days menu, one of the experts on here could help you with that and see if it has anything to do with what you are eating.  Just a suggestion.  Best wishes for a successful journey!

P.S.  I am only 6 days out and also a patient of Dr Aceves so I am still doing liquids but curious about what I have to look forward to and what the experts might have to say about your menu, or then again maybe it has nothing to do with your menu. Good Luck!

As a human who is sensitive to carbs and who definitely gets hungry still

Breakfast and snack would set me up to be ravenous all day.  For me? A protein shake feels like it stays in my belly for maybe 20 minutes max, then I feel blurgy and like I need something solid in there before it gets all acidy and blurg.  I malabsorb protein, so I need at least 2 shakes a day so I have at least 50 grams of protein that my body can easily absorb - but I have those an hour to a half hour before I eat, because as a meal alone they would not hold me for any time at all.

The apple snack, fruit shoots through my belly in a flash!  Fruit and cheese, fruit and meat, fruit and peanutbutter.  That's something I might have and know that an hour later, I was going to be rumbling around, rummaging looking for, again, something with substance to put in my bellah!

Your shrimp and sauce, that seems innocent enough - depending on the sauce.  how much sauce? Drippy googobs?  Meat plus anything (salsa, sauce, melty cheese) cruises through me faster than just meat alone.  Also = depending on the ****tail sauce, look at the ingredients, so many of them have sugar to counteract the acidity in the tomato part, and add a nice mouthfeel in addition to toning down the horseradish a bit!

Dinner - again, meat PLUS anything does not stay in my belly as long as meat alone.  I can have 3 ounces of meat and a cup of lettuce *(and a T or some sprays of dressing) and be hungry in an hour. I can have 3 ounces of meat alone and its more like 3 hours that I am full.

Also, check the ranch dressing, a whoole lot of em have a lot of sugar, especially if you are (and you might not be!!) being low fat about it.

So.. am I saying you should only eat meat alone?  No way Jose!  (if that's your real name) I am just saying, for me and my freaky belly - I have to set up my day in a substantial way - something solid and firm for my belly to munch, and I have to realize and accept that (again, for me) when I DO eat Meat Plus, I will just naturally be hungrier sooner than Just Meat.

like Mandy says she can be full for a long time on a little chicken salad, with nuts and fruit I think she said?  For me that would zoom on through and the fruit would diddle with my blood sugar.  This is not true for her..and it might not be true for you, but I have found its true for me.

A huge part of all of this is seeing how YOUR body runs best, what keeps you full longest/best and then adjusting whatever to accommodate what your needs are!

Welcome to your new relationship!  It takes a bit of getting to know how you function, because its sure not the same as it was!

and for me?  Honestly?  Hungry every 3 hours does not seem unreasonable for the small amounts I eat.  Definitely better than never ever ever being fully and always being plagued by crushing hunger!

Good luck girlie!!

Thanks for your input.  You were one of the experts I was hoping would reply.  Was curious what your take on this was and now I know.  I am just trying to learn everything I can for when I get to start eating solids.  I find your input so valuable, thank you once again for your time!

I am only an expert in me!  *most days!*  :}  And everyone does well by themselves to get to know themselves, but you are right!

Its helpful to see how someone else breaks it down and thinks about it, so you can sleuth things out when/if you need to!

You are welcome girlie!  You will do the same when you can!  I know it!

Thanks for the reply Brandi!

I will try eggs or something with more substance in the morning. Perhaps the shakes just make me feel more hungry since it doesn't stay with me long. I will try that approach.

I didnt use much ****tail sauce, just enough to give the shrimp some flavor, but it did have some carbs.

As far as dressings, I only use full fat b/c of the low carb content, plus I can't tolerate the taste of the low fat versions. I just don't use a lot. The same thing with cheese, I eat the full fat cheddar vs low fat and it does help to keep me fuller longer.

As far as the apple with PB it didn't fill me up very long.....I was hungry soon after. So I guess that is something I can't really do for now.

This does take some getting used to and I really appreciate all the posts and suggestions that I have gotten. They are very helpful.   :)

You are very welcome!  And remember too, those things I posted are really only how it pertains to me, so keep them in the back of your mind - but be open and curious about your ways!

Do eggs agree with you?  If they are iffy, I would say have em later in the day - being all urpy first thing is boo!!  I have meat, salsa, and cheese in the morning, usually. It sits satisfyingly in my tum and my mouth was glad to have some deelicious flavor first thing (well, second thing, after coffee :} )

I am a full fat gal too.

Well, now you definitely CAN do the apple/peanut butter thing - but just realize that you will be hungry sooner after!  So, maybe budget in your calories (if you are being a calorie counter) so that 1.5 - 2 hours after your applenPNB that you have scheduled in something of substance!

You can use the stuff that shoots through your belly quicker to your advantage (forgive me if I am repeating myself ) but like for me, if it is only 2 hours until Zumba, but I need to eat something before I go, and a shake is not going to get it (because it will only fill me up for a tiny time and then I will be urpy if I do not eat something REAL) then I might have 2 ounces of meat, slice o chee, and a cup of lettuce.  That will be out of my belly in 1.5 hours MAX, and so I will have had something that was substantial, sat in my tum nicely when it was there, but is not sitting like a lump in my belly while I merengue around!!

Also, if I am going out to dinner later than my usually dinner time, and I do not want to eat something that keeps me full enough to not be able to go out and have something that I really *want* then I will make a choice to eat something that slips through quicker, but can keep my blood sugar stable and my mood not *****y so that I can not be preoccuppied with WHEN THE HELL IS DINNER PEOPLE!!!  STOP WITH THE GABBING AND LETS FREAKING ORDER!!!  Because well, that's kind of inappropriate :}

Course, unless its Mexican, then I do not care how long it takes for them to order, because the tortilla chips are already on the table blowing kisses at me.  :}

All of this stuff, how fast we get hungry, what shuttles through faster, slower is GOOD to know because then you can use it to YOUR advantage!! Yaaay!  Yaay being the boss of your mind AND your belly!!

Good food, get in our bellah!!

Wow I'm 9 months out and there is no way I could eat 3 oz of anything, let alone 5 oz.  About 5 mini-shrimp, but not 5 ounces!

I have never lost my hunger, but it isn't like it was before surgery.  I do have to eat every 2-3 hours, but 1/2 - 1 oz of almonds or a string cheese will do it between meals.
