So I am in a month long self induced stall. I know I am killing myself. I decided that I need to start a food journal and really get a look at what I am putting into my mouth. I suspect it is worse than I thought.

I am doing some weight lifting 3 days a week and the elliptical and I are very good friends, at this time i am up to 40 min 3 days a week as well.

So I am working out and I do not go easy on myself. Food is the culprit and I know it. The last time I posted about this stall I got some very good advice and I am trying to follow it.

So the question I have for yall is do you have an online food journal web site that you go to? I want easy and quick.

I use sparkspeople.com.   They also have a phone app.  The have a gazillion products and foods listed. I really like it cause you can save favorites and input obscure foods manually.

Also tracks carbs and protein.  The only downside, it won't let you go lower than 1000 calories, so I just put 1600-1800 and ingore the 1000.

Tried on line journal wasn't keeping it up.  So I went old school with a paper journal.  I use Diet Minder  Personal Food and Fitness Journal.  It has a place for pictures, measurements, daily weight, food 3 meals plus snacks, if you are doing all the cal, fat, carb, etc and not just protein there is a place for that.  It has a water count, fitness - "do the math" section to total - and notes.

I find it REALLY helpful - I keep notes about my day - How I felt and triggers etc.  It is about 5x8 inches fits in my purse.  Can take it to the NUT if needed.  I also use it to pull in meal ideas from past meals when I need to hit a calorie/protein # for a meal.  Here is the link in case you want to consider an old school journal... Amazon sells it for about $10 and allows you to view sample pages etc.  Good luck with breaking the stall!

I'm a big (less big now, actually) fan of Myfitnesspal.com   Here's why:  It's easy to use, you can search almost any food and find a listing for it.  It's easy to adjust the portions listed - if it says a serving of saltines is 5, and I've cheated an had 6, I can enter it easily and accurately.  It gives me the opportunity to request reports on progress - charts that show anything from total protein for the day to 90 day graphs that really help you see the trends.  Lastly, it allows me to enter my exercise every day and produces a "net calories" column, where I can see exactly what I've done each day.
Way cool, for this 65-year-old geezer.
BUT - and this is a BIG BUT -you have to suck it up and be 100% totally honest about what your putting in the journal.  I decided when I began this program that I would no longer lie to myself about food - every bite I eat is entered in my journal.  My persoanl goal is to keep my calories at about 1100 per day with 80-100 grams of protein and exercise that equals 500-600 calories per day.  Seems to be working well for me.  Hope this helps.

I use FatSecret.com and like it for the ease in which I use it.  I hate anything complicated or too technical.  I just want to put in the food and the amount and have it tell me carbs, protein and calories and this does it.

While I abhor the name "fat secret" I LOVE the android phone app it has because it has a widget option where others do not.

I know what you mean about the name...what the heck was the deal with that??  I guess it was a big fat secret or something.  We all know there is nothing secret about being fat.  Its kinda right out there for the world to see isn't it..?
