Hi!!  I had the lapband surgery Nov. 2006 and it simply didn't work out for me.......long story.......fills, unfills, tweek here, tweek there........never could find that sweet spot!!  Initially lost 25 lbs. and regained over time!!  So I am attending a seminar in Tampa for different types of Bariatric Surgeries.

I am interested in the Sleeve Gasrectomy.  Could someone tell me about their experience from going from lapband to the sleeve??  What did you have to do pre-op??  Any info would be great.  I want to be well informed this go round.......very disappointed in the lapband, especially because I paid cash for that surgery.........my insurance covers this one and the RNY.  So looking for suggestions and insight!!  -Holly

Holly,
Same story for me...fills, unfills, stuck issues, pbing, and I only had my band 18 months.  I lost 70 pounds--have gained 20 of it back because I was eating to get by--I couldn't eat any protein without getting stuck.  I said enough is enough!  I saw the surgeon on Jan. 3.  My first request to insurance was denied (but it was verbal...no paperwork sent).  We sent all paperwork in around March 3rd or so.  Was approved March 10th!!  My surgeon does the removal of the band and the VSG in separate surgeries.  Many don't, but I agree with him in that removing the band, waiting 8 weeks, then doing the VSG is a good idea.  It gives me time to for my stomach to heal, and it also helps initial weight loss since your body essentially has been w/o restriction for a while.  I will say that I cannot eat nearly as much as I did before lapband.  I think it is because my stomach has shrunk!
Anyway, I got my band removed 3/22.  It was an easy surgery and recovery.  My VSG is on 5/23.  I am so excited, but a little worried since the healing process seems to take longer with the sleeve.  However, I am a teacher, so I will have two months off to adjust to it and the new eating that goes along with it!  I do have to do the 2 week preop diet again.
That's all I know.  It isn't much, but it's a start!  Good luck
Jenn
