Do most surgeons wait 3 weeks to let you eat mushies?
I was on clear liquids for the first day in the hospital and Full liquids on the 2nd day of my stay. When I was sent home I was put on pureed diet. It was still a bit much for me so I stayed on Full liquids mostly for several more days and adding some pureed veggies. Gradually added more and more. Today is my 4 week anniversary and I am on a 'soft' diet but it includes most things. I haven't tried any raw veggies yet. I haven't had any issues eating anything --- YET.
I asked my NUT about the different speed in transitioning to new foods. She said that its their belief that its best to transition as an individual's body tolerates. However, remember that team is who you interact and are accountable to/with. They are your support system and if you have problems, you know how that will go!
Best of luck to you!

Mine is 3 weeksfull liquids also...then purees at 4-5 weeks out. mushies aren't until 6-7 weeks. When I talked to the nurse, she said that protein is the most important factor in eating right now. The thickest I am supposed to have is the texture of yogurt. But some of my protein shake concoctions have bordered on pudding.
So far, though I'm healing well, and haven't gotten sick, and I am getting 60 grams of protein a day in..and when I asked her about texture, she told me to keep doing what I'm doing.
Here is how I really amp up the protein per serving. I add in EGG WHITE POWDER (2 servings) and BREWER'S YEAST POWDER (1/2 serving, cause it can add a weird taste if you put too much) and with a high protein powder (22 grams). I also add Almond Butter for another protein boost with health fat. Plus I get a little protein in other things for flavor I add like unsweetened cocoa.
When I eat my protein shakes twice a day, my goal is nearly met...and I'm very full. In between, I'm eating little bits of protein here and there. But mostly just getting in the fluids like SF gatorade or SF popsicles.

I don't think most surgeons do anything one way regarding the diet. It really runs the gamut, and when you sign on with a particular surgeon, you have to have faith that they know your case better than the rest of us and so need to follow their guidelines.
There it is. Sucks sometimes, but it will over soon and you will graduate into heavenly mushie, then food world.

Mine does. I am near the end end of a week of clears (OMG I am hungry now and hating it!!!) Then I start 2 weeks full liquids. I'm excited for that because it includes smooth yogurts, runny hot cereals like cream of wheat, milk, regular protein shakes (instead of the nasty isopure), and milk. Then purees starting the 4th week...
It sucks, but they said they used to be more lenient in advancing sleever's diet's until a couple patients ruptured their sleeves!!
Motivation enough for me to stick with it I guess...
