Light Headedness & Drained

I don't mean to post so often, but I really only have one other friend whose had this surgery, and because of his work schedule, I'm unable to talk with him as much as I'd like!

So, here goes. Some of you are aware that I am NOW on my 2nd day of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet that my doctor has ordered me to partake in, and I'm feeling a bit lightheaded and drained. One of my co-workers (who previously had RNY bypass & had many complications as well as a significant weight gain) says that it's just "all in my head"......BUT I beg to differ! It's not just "all in my head" ....it's in my head, my body, etc.....

Did anyone else who had to do a 2 week pre-op diet experience this and if so, what did you do to rectify the situation??

I have had this pre and post op, I usually found that I wasn't drinking enough water.  I am also prone to feel this way if I get too hot, so I need to be really careful to have LOTS of water.

I've been driking about 80 oz of water a day, should I "up" that amount?? My mouth does seem to feel as if I have "cotton" mouth, and I've been drinking, drinking, urinating, urinating, drinking, ......so on...lol.

Try a protein drink. I'm not sure what they've told you you can drink, but even when I was on clear liquids, milk and protein drinks were included in this group.

Good luck to ya Hun!!

I agree with Dragongirl. usually the light headedness comes from the lack of protein. Get in as much protein as you can possibly get. You can't overdo when it comes to protein. Pre and just a few weeks post op are the hardest. Hang in there! YOU CAN DO IT!

I was on Optifast for 2 weeks. 4 shakes a day and water - no food at all!!  Day 3,4,& 5 were horrible...thought I would die with the headache and fatigue.  I have also had moments of lightheadedness, sometimes I thought it was from too much water, you do need your protein and water - very important!!!  Hang in there...it is only for 2 weeks and then you'll be on the other side - I'm one week out from surgery and doing well on full fluids for another week and then I'll have 2 weeks of pureed soft foods before I finally get to try real food again... I'm telling myself it is short term pain for long term gain...I have lost approx 20 lbs and on the right track...hang in there you can do it!!

I had lightheadedness in the beginning of the pre-op liquid too (and for the first few weeks post-op) and it was low blood sugar (I wasn't diabetic, but my mom is and I used her meter to check it). My Nut told me to take 2 oz no-sugar-added applejuice to bring my sugar up. That helped with the lightheadedness and shakiness. It was worse at night usually, but eventually, my body adjusted.
Obviously, check with your doc or nut. and hang in there. I hope you feel better soon - you're on your way!! :)
