I went to the doc to get a B12 shot today and my BP was 84/60 and I was pretty dehydrated so I got fluids by an IV and may have to go back and get more depending on how I feel tomorrow. Has this happened to anyone else? I feel like I am drinking all the time but I guess I'm not! I am very frustrated because I don't feel good and I am so weak!! I am questioning what I have done to myself! I am trying to keep positive thoughts but this week has been so hard!! I am in week 3 by the way.

I'm 4 1/2 weeks now, ended up getting IV fluids at week 3.  Saw the NUT this last Monday and upped my carbs because I was not getting enough.  So, after drinking LifeWater w/ B vitamins and adding approx. 15g carbs at each meal (6 small meals daily)  I feel 100% better.
Hang in there, it gets better and definately talk to your NUT!!!!
Oh, also, I was just this week really able to kick up the fluids to 64oz.

I was just discharged yesterday and can't speak from experience, but having seen people on here who had run into dehydration issues, I've been paranoid about getting everything in.

My surgeon said if I were to drink 1oz every 15 minutes while I'm awake throughout the day, I'll be fine... so, this is what I'm doing:

1.) Download an application for your phone that lets you set alarms
2.) Set one for every 15 minutes throughout the day
3.) When an alarm goes off, drink 1 oz. (works for getting in the protein shakes too)
4.) If you skip one, drink 2oz on the next alarm.

I haven't done it  yet, but I'm going to pick up a couple of thermos's so I can keep my shakes cold and broth hot while it's just sitting there next to me waiting for the next 15 min alarm.

Good luck! :-)

Just wanted to let you know it is not that uncommon..And knowing when you need to suck it up and go get fluids is important. 3-4 times since surgery I have had to go in for IV fluids. It seems whenever I get sick I dont drink enough and end up hooked up to a bag of fluids.

Its ok, drinking will be easier as you get further out but this is something you will have to be conscious of for a while at least. I am still trying to understand the balance.

I had my surgery in January and at my appt this month the doctor told me to be very careful with the warmer weather.  He said every summer he winds up with one or two 'newbies' in the hospital with dehydration.  I am making sure that I am not that 'newbie'  LOL

Good Luck and SIP SIP SIP
