So, me and protein drinks do not get along. Once, I tried the metobolic research diet and their protein drinks...GAG ME. I could not do it. Seriously.....I gagged every sip I took. Are all protein drinks that bad?? If they are I am going to have a REALLY hard time. Of course I will still do it...but oh my, I dont look forward to it!

I am 10 days out and the first week of clear liquid protein made me cry!  I hated it and it took me all day to get the 2 twenty oz bottles down.  I used Isopure and now that I am in week 2 I use Muscle Milk Light.  Its better than the Isopure,  My Dr has me getting 80 - 90 grams of protein.  That is the highest that I have from this site!

I cant do anything millky since surgery. Even the smell of the milky protein drinks made me want to vomit Day 1 post op. So my Dr switched me to Liquacel. Its water based. They offer 3 different flavors, but the only one that is decent is grape. The other 2 are just plain nasty. Anyway, the grape flavor can be a little overwhelming, so I freeze it into popsicles! Yummy! It is a little expensive, but for me its worth it. Good luck!

It varies by brand and personal taste.  I like unjury chicken broth.  Also the bariatric advantage unflavored meal replacement.  I add PB2 or SF Pudding for whatever flavor I'm in the mood for.

Good luck!

There's hundreds of protein shakes and powders out there. I think it's important to find one you can tolerate pre ops and, at a minimum, during the liquid phase post op.

A year later, I still use both. You might be able to find a chocolate or vanilla powder you can mix with water or milk and flavor up. There's lots of recipes here....I seem to give this out allot

Plus with a pre made shake, you can add SF flavorings to change up the taste.

So I am 1 month out and still to this day i cannot drink any protein shakes. Thankfully i was able to handle the advantage protein bars that Costco sells once i was in my soft food phase. 30g a bar =) in the beginning my doctor told me to focus on getting as much in as possible but don't force it. if its early and you make yourself sick or gag alot you can cause damage so the best advise, Call your nutritionist. and don't force! just get what you can and make sure you are taking all the right vitamins early on.

what worked for me is broth. =)

unjury chicken broth was great i also  had the bariatric advantage unflavored replacement meal as well. it helped alot... give that a try if you can.

I hope it works out. just remember please don't make yourself sick or gag... =(

I am a little over 3 weeks post op and I am the same way!  I vomit every time I try to drink protein of any kind!  I am also vomiting when I take my chewable vitamin, so I am in a double bind!  I am currently not doing either, so I know I am going to get my butt kicked when I see my NUT next week.  But, I am at a loss.  I have tried at least 4 different kinds of protein and it doesn't help!
