I have to have a hysterectomy. First I have to have a D&C on July 12Th. Than getting it all out on August 8Th. It is so far away I have to much time to sit and think of what can go wrong doing this.

This will be the 4Th time they go in to my belly button with the camera I am scared of getting a hernia this time around. I am about to tell them not to do this but there is only one thing stopping me from telling them no.

I want a tummy tuck and my weight loss doc knows I need a hysterectomy so I am sure he will not do the tummy tuck if i do not get this operation. I am scared of this surgery but was not scared of the VSG or the gull bladder surgery. I never even thought of all that could go wrong now i sit here and think of it every day.

please tell me your story if you had a hysterectomy how you feel now.  I am sitting here in tears right now my children tell me i am so strong with all the surgery's I have had this past year I am falling apart over this one.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Oh gosh Valerie!  I had a hysterectomy when I was 30.. It was the best thing I ever did for myself up to the time I had VSG.  Valerie it set me free!  I was able to get on with my life without TOM, I didn't have to worry about accidents or cramps or any other of mirade of things that come with a uterus.  I had open incision and it was called a bikini cut.  If I were to have a tummy tuck I was told that they would go just below the old scar and remove that along with any scar tissue and just make a new and better scar.  If I were you I would just go for it.  I had surgery on a Friday morning, went home on Monday, then went to my sons soccar game on Thursday and walked across the field carrying my own chair.  I did all my own house work except vacuming because I was told not to.  It took me an hour to make the bed but I did it.  The worse day was the day after surgery because that was the day I was in the most pain but it as controlled by meds.  You will do fine!

I have to agree with Stephanie. I had mine when I turned 40. The BEST that ever happened in my life.

Honestly Valerie...I wouldn't worry. I've had 16 surgeries in the past 10yrs and 3 in one year.

I had a hysterectomy about 6 years ago and am so glad to be done with all that! I'm thinking the reason they're doing this is that you're having runaway periods, right? Just think, after this surgery you will never have to worry about that aspect of your life again! What a relief it is!

I think the thing you have to keep in mind is that after losing weight and getting in shape you are in the very best situation ever to have surgery. Try to think of this in a positive way - you'll be fine and afterwards you will be so glad to be rid of those pesty parts! ;-)

Yes I have really really bad periods. I have been going for over a week now and I am so sick of it. I was told one ovary has to be removed but I will keep one. I want this part of my body taken out i just do not know why i am freaking out about this one surgery I have had 6 so far this year.

this will make number 7 you would think I would be a pro at this by now. My husband tells me well at least we will never have to worried about me being or getting pregnant again lol. I do not want any more children. I wonder how much weight this will take off me lol. I hope alot because I need to loose 30 more before January.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Valerie,
I think my hysterectomy is my 2nd favorite surgery only second to my sleeve!

I was 45 when I had my hysterectomy and didn't realize how lousy I felt until I had it out. I did keep my ovaries as I didn't want to go through the hormonal changes (translate that to I couldn't put my family through any more hormonal issues than they already were going through! LOL).

You will do great! It was a bit more of a recovery period from that surgery than from my sleeve, however I wouldn't think twice of having it done again. Thankfully those parts don't grow back tho!

Hi Valerie, I had a hysterectomy when I was 2 months postpartum. I had a fibriod that grew with a pregnancy.Because I had just given birth, the fibriod was trying to expell it's self. after having the baby my uterus was trying to get rid of it with contractions. I lost a lot of blood and my blood count went down to 5 something and one point nearly 4. The scariest part of my experience was being casual about the hemeraging. I knew that I had to follow up but I was taking time about things. It wasn't until visitors came by to see the baby and they saw me, and told me how sick I looked. a few days later Ithe labratory called me to say that said I was basically almost  out of blood  and get to hospital immediately. I was scared ****less cause I never heard of the lab calling anyone. A week later I had a total abdominal hysterectomy. The hardest part about the healing process was abdominal pain for 3-4 days and after that the only other pain I had was the staples. The staples hurt because my belly hangs and it was pulling on the staples.. The staple area was tender when I washed the area during a shower. Once the staples were out in 10 days, I was A-Okay!!!! It was over. No more Periods woooohooooo!
You will do fine.

They will be using the divency machine on me. it will be taken out the same way my stomach was. My doc said no more big cuts only 4 poke holes. I guess I am lucky that they they do this kind of surgery this way. Thanks for all the help.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Congratulations on your upcoming hysterectomy!
Like the previous posters, it was the best thing that could have happened for me. I feel so much better. I had been having my period for four months straight and it was a heavy flow. I had a fibroid tumor that was the size of a grapefruit when they did the surgery, and while they were doing the operation they also found a golfball size cyst on my left ovary. They drained the cyst and left the ovaries. I no longer have the horrible back aches swelling and bloating that came with my menses. Everything was removed vaginally.
It is normal to be worried, but talk to your Dr. about your concerns, this discussion I believe will help you.

First of all I would like to congratulate you on your amazing weightloss in since July!  That is wonderful.  Second I would like to say face these surgeries one step at a time.  I understand that you want a tummy tuck (I will too most likely when I am done losing my weight) but take care of what needs to be fixed first.  I there is a need for a hernia repair after the hyster then they can do it when you have the tuck.  Since you have until Aug for the hysto work on strengthening your abs pre op and really be careful with lifting post op.   You have come this far, you will be alright.  Hang in there!
