Thanks, emelar.  I've been wanting to read that book.  I already purchased The Beck diet solution, but have yet to actually read it.  I want to read ALL the books Brandilynn recommends.  Hugs.........Jennifer

I've got the same problem, but I am like spookydoll; I don't worry about it once a week. But before I get my treat, I make sure I'm almost full of something better for me anyway. For instance Father's day my sister served lasagna, salad, pie and ice cream, and I ate my lasagna (did not eat the noodles) and salad first, stopping when I knew I could eat another few bites. then I made myself a praline/pecan ice cream cone, after a few licks that was it for me. If we had not had dessert I might have allowed myself a little bit of noodle. I do not agree with what I call the 'AA approach" where certain foods are entirely off limits. To me, it causes such a craving builds that I will eventually eat a whole meal of the forbidden substance. Instead, if I want mac and cheese, fine--but only a bite after I have almost finished my other food. Works for me. Everyone is different , and you have to know yourself and what works for you.

ETA>I just noticed emelar's post; I have not read that book, but it actually sounds very close to what I do and would probably be helpful if you think a more moderate approach would work for you.

You see, I could not just eat a few bites (or licks).  That would not be enough for me.  Sigh.  I just don't get it.  Thanks for your reply and the best of luck on your journey.  Hugs.......Jennifer

I really struggle with baked goodies, too. I haven't had surgery yet, but I still get sucked into "all or nothing" thinking. You know how it goes... "this is already a crap eating day, so I might as well have another/more/etc".

I enjoy cooking, so I have found healthier/lowcarb/higher protein versions of baked treats (for special occasions). I still have to limit them (especially b/c low carb/high protein substitutes pack in the calories).  If we do have a "batch" of something in the house, I dish out 1 serving, and immediately freeze the rest. It's not nearly as tempting (or easy, LOL... I've tried) to chip away and try to eat a rock-solid frozen cookie or brownie.

Is there a way you could encourage your daughter to bake low carb/high protein? They may bood good enough, but not TDF, which may help. Or something that doesn't really call your name? (I could care less about any store-bought baked goods. So for me, if my family wants a treat, it's not really a temptation). Are there things your daughter could bake that would be easier to resist?

Another idea (helps me when the rest of my family eats crap/carbs/treats, etc) is to find something to satisfy the craving w/o blowing it for you. For example, my family gets ice cream once a week. I mix up my greek yogurt/berries/SF cheesecake pudding mix and I'm content.

I'm sure there are veterans out there who can offer more suggestions (Frisco's post is AMAZING!!)  but wanted to throw a few things out there that help me.

Here's a link to this BAKING GENIOUS'S blog. All of her recipes are low carb, and I think the majority are also gluten-free and lactose free. I still think any treats (even low-carb!) have to be used carefully and limited, but there are some really yummy options.

EVERYTHING I've made has been fantastic, my entire (regular diet eating) family loves them. (The black bean cake- which I made into cupcakes and topped with SF whipped cream instead of icing- turned out awesome!)

I am so glad I read this thread.  Oh, I needed it!  I have been stuck for about three weeks and I know fully well what it is.  It is terrifying for me because I am only three months out and still have a bout a hundred pounds to lose.

I cannot thank you folks enough.  I am goning to get serious again.  When I cheat, I only cheat me.  NO one else is gonna suffer from my cheating.  No one else is gonna gain.

Oh LORD!  I do so want to be able to do this.

You can't stop at one because you are addicted to sugar,as are many of us here, myself included. the more you eat the more you want to eat. it is just like an alcoholic or drug addict in recovery, they simply cannot have just one,it is a trigger.

There may comer a time in your life when you have to decide what is going to win: you or your addiction.

good luck and know I am on exactly the same road with you.

we win a few,we lose a few. the goal, over time,is to win more than we lose.
Hang in there,
holly

:lo  l I'm only ok with my bite or two of trash because I eat the 2 1/2 ozof chicken and THEN start on my trash food. So I get to full to go on before I can do any damage. (I do nibble my junk food slowly, so it lasts looong)
otherwise i too could eat half a row of oreos or a whole 'big grab' chips, and the ice cream would NOT have gone in the trash!
