So, I've been seeing all of these commercials lately with PROTEIN loaded ENSURE! Does anyone drink ENSURE to help with their protein intake?

In my Steps to Success class (required by my surgeon's office) they provided Ensure as an option for a shake. I've never tried one though (I'm still pre-op in the auth waiting phase).

Ensure High Protein shake has 23 grams of carbs per serving and 25 grams of protein.

Too many carbs for me

Their high protein stuff doesn't look too bad compared to other protein drinks on the market- a bit on the high carb side of the spectrum for those into that - but their other versions are made for other uses with lower protein and higher calories so aren't really appropriate for WLS use. If you like it better than other similar products, go for it. A lot of the powders mixed with milk will be half the carbs and more protein for similar calories, but if they're not palatable, that's not much of a help. If you will drink the Ensure but won't drink others, it's a way to get in the protein that you need until you can get it from real food.

When I looked at the ingredient list the carbs were way too high for me. Remember, just because a medical professional says something doesn't mean they're right. Only talking about the carb issue and nothing else.

My surgeon says no, also because of the carbs/sugars. I stick w/ regular protein... only 10days post-op, so not yet able to get enough from food.

It is not the best choice, too much sugar.  And, I tried one, the taste was so bad I took one sip.  I threw the rest out.
I got my sleeve on March 14, 2011.  I love it so far!

I use Trader Joe's Designer Whey with two cups skim milk. It has 32 grams of carbs but 54 grams of protein. It tastes just like chocolate milk. Hope this helps.
