Surely they can't eat the whole time. Tell them you'll show up after the gorging part is done and enjoy spending some time with your brother while he's not pigging out.

My best advice to you is to go and enjoy your family. Remember we got these sleeves to lead normal lives and not be differenct. Don't let avoiding gatherings where there is food and your loved ones make you different.

I've been through a little of this already. You'll be fine I promise. Just go and take a nibble if you feel like it, fine if you don't. I sometimes pick up a cucumber and munch on it dipped in a little ranch dip at a party. I even had a small bite of my son's cake and you know what, the world did not come to an end and I even felt REALLY good because I was relieved of one of my greatest fears! I have always LOVED birthday cake. It wasn't even that good, I spit some of it out and definitely didn't want another bite so it's all a learning experience.

I have also learned that my sleeve is also still in control which is great! I was sleeved on 6/17.

Just go and think of it as celebrating your new found freedom from the shackles and chains of food!

Were you the only fat one in your family? Is the hidden agenda here resentment that you are moving from fat to not fat? Are you mourning your previous relationship with food?

Go and pretend you've been diagnosed with a food allergy so extreme that even LOOKING at the cake will make you sick. Either spend the time sucking on a protein shake or a no-cal beverage. If it were my birthday, I'd want my sister there. Your mother is probably stressed, I'd let it go.

No, my father and his entire side of the family is overweight/obese. My mothers side - not so much.

YOU are NOT being selfish!!  Being 3 weeks out is VERY hard.  You are probably on liquids and it's a stressful situation for you.  I avoided all social situations for about 6 weeks.  I felt more comfortable once I was on solids and felt more in control.  Explain your mother your feelings.  You are trying so hard and you should be applauded!!!
