I've ordered french onion soup with no croutons/bread at LOTS of different restaurants, and it's never been a problem. This was one of my first restaurant go-to foods as well - I would eat the fabulous melty cheese off the top and then most of the broth; I didn't trust the actual onions early out, so I just left them at the bottom of the bowl.
I'm in my last week of mushies. I had french onion soup last week and it was delicious. My NUT okayed mushy veggies including onions so I enjoyed the soup minus the crouton and cheese. I mentally had a hard time with the cheese so my hubby ate it. I just pictured this lump of mozzarella trying to squeeze through my tummy tube and couldn't do it.
Try it, you"ll love it!!

I am going out to eat tomorrow for the first time... looking at the lunch menu it seems to be my best choice, depending on the soup of the day... Can I ask for no crouton? I don't want to risk a nibble in public...
So far I have successfully had...
egg beaters with cheese
veggie burgers
turkey meatballs
tuna
refried beens/laughing cow light swiss
I *think* I can do it.... No crutons. Bread swells like you can't imagine! Ouch.
