Hello! l have been doing alot of research on VSG on the internet, facebook, youtube and just following alot of peoples weightloss journeys. I am noticing that ALOT of people lose an extremley large amount of hair! Scary. So is everyone having hair loss issues? If so, What can you take to prevent hairloss? And why does that happen?

In my opinion, through my own experience, there's nothing you can do about it. What seems like bunches of hair to one person is no big deal to another. IT STOPS (for each person, different time frame) and you're already growing hair you didn't know you had. It's incredibly annoying and I would guess at my worst, the loss was probably twice as much as I usually see in the shower every day. Then one day you're just back to where you were. Most people don't care or really notice all that much.

The theory is that your body is in shock mode. Some people absoultely swear by using Biotin but it's not proven to make hair GROW, just make it stronger. I personally never changed my products or added new ones, I just didn't really care! Some people thin to the point that they feel like getting their hair cut shorter--to each their own.

The only way I know to prevent the hair loss, the 3 week stall (or any stall)
is to not have the surgery
;-)

I'm 7 months out and have been losing it since about 5 months out..

I HATE this hairloss and if it continues at this rate I may have to cut it short which SUCKS because I love my long mop of hair!

But let me just say, the hairloss is WAYYYY overshadowed by all the wonderful things that this VSG has allowed me and how it has changed my life.

Plus, I'd rather be smokin and bald than fat and hairy..

But there is no real equation to who loses, who doesnt, and there is a crap-ton of controversey as to how to prevent it.

LMAO:

"Plus, I'd rather be smokin and bald than fat and hairy"

Thank you, that's the funniest thing I've heard in awhile but I totally agree. I'm just doing everything I can to get protien in, vitamins everyday, looks like I need to add a few to my pile, and I'm hoping my mop gets me through.  I have fine hair, but TONS of it.  I thought I was going bald with one of my pregnancies, but it was fine.

At any rate, I'm so happy after doing this.  It's not a cake walk but it's not hard by any means.  If going in you are thinking you can just return to life as normal - probably not for you.  It does require a complete change in diet, lifestyle and the addition of some things you didn't have before (tons of vitamins, making sure you meet your fluid/protien intake, excercising as soon as you are physically able, etc).

My biggest thing right now is I'm one of those people who gets lightheaded, that ended a few days ago and is now being replaced by the 'shakes".  I have to watch it, I'm so not hungry some days I get back down to 300 calories if I don't pay attention.  Today I think I'm going to make 500 - but a complete reverse of life prior, my night time meals are harder for me to get in.  I can't eat as much after 5pm.  No idea waht that is.  So by the morning I wake up shakey and have to run for my protien shake!

But this too shall pass.  I know it will and I'm not worried at all.

I had some hair loss but it was not noticeable. I just finished my sixth month and I am noticing my hair has stop falling out and it's thicker. I have problems with my stomach and had a hard time getting in my protein. I tried to concentrate on getting as much protein as I could with in my guidelines.

IF you can start your day with a protein drink instead of coffee or something else--that helps. I have been using ISOPURE from GNC, both the shakes [50 gr of protein] and the Zero Carb drink [40 gr of protein/drink].  THAT routine is so EZ to do each day--ONE shake and ONE bottle of a tooty fruity drink and I get 90 grams of protein with no carbs, no sugar and no aspartame.

EZ is what I like to do.

You will have hairloss if you have not been a good girl on your protein, water intake and vitamins.
I am 90 days post op, am 57 y.o., post-menopausal and have lost 45 pounds in that short period of time.  Your body thinks it is in a time of stress, and stress causes hairloss.  You can take Biotin, Flax seed Oil, wheatgerm oil, primrose oil [all available in capsules].  My surgeon did not want his patients to take pills for 90 days.  I am just at a point where I can start taking capsules.  I was able to do chewables and able to dissolve some things--or throw them in a blended shake.

Yes, I am losing alot of hair right now--but I believe in "healing crisises".  For example, I paid for a series of accupunture treatments.  After the second treatment [we were working on my self-confidence, speaking up for myself since I am looking for work, etc] after the second treatment I got the worst case of laryngitis for a full week.  NO voice at all.  That happened on a day I was going in for an interview--In my mind--rejection is God's protection.  I was being protected from that job.  TYG.

Google a Healing Crisis and please hit my name to read some of my other posts.  I try to gather information and share it on this website.  AND if you go to Youtubes, go look up: I left my stomach in Mexicali.  I have a video diary there.

FALSE

I've  been on this website for over two years and I've seen a zillion posts about people having hairloss. In my opinion, the only people who don't post about it are the ones who don't care that they experienced it! EVERYONE has it to some degree with these surgeries.

You can do this program by the letter and you'll still have hairloss.

But dang, isn't it a great tradeoff???
