How often do you see your surgeon?
I have seen a buch of posts of peopel only seeing their surgeon for really limited amounts of time...
Mine is from a canter of excellence and all and is quite busy... there are 3 doctors total. I had to jump through a lot of hoops before I GOT to see him, but at the initial consoult he spent nearly 45 min with me and answered every question I could possibly think of (like 3 pages!).
A little less than a month later I had another apt, a week before surgery... and I was "Strongly encouraged" to bring a support person... he did a brief physical exam, then talked to me and my mom for 30+ min.
I saw him before any drugs at the hospital.... I can't remember after but I know he was around...
I was in the hospital for 5 days with complications and I remember seeing him all of the days but one...
I have had a one week and a 2 week follow up, and will have a one month, 2 month, 3 month, 6 month, one year and then anual follow ups for 5 years... unless he retires or something I'll see him at every one...
I still would have done it, but I don't know how comfortable I would have been with only seeing him 15 minutes....
I will say, even within the practice he is the only one who sees you at EVERY follow up... it does seem a little overkill, but in a good way :-)

I have had many follow-up appts..my office is very good about that. However I only got to visit with my surgeon at one meeting as a preop..asked lots of questions..and got lots of good information. After that meeting I always seen the Physicians Assistant..who was also there on the day of surgery along with my surgeon. My 2 wk postop appt was with my surgeon..but I haven't seen him since..only my physicians assistant.
I went to a Center of Excellence as well..my insurance required it.

I saw him when I signed the consent forms. The morning of surgery before the giggle juice. The day of discharge.
But I have known him since 2005 he did my lap-band surgery, but that was about the same.
From here on out I will see the PA but I know all of them.
I love my doctor and his staff. I have no need to see him anymore. I know if I have a problem he will be around.....
But I don't like to be a problem child or fuzzed over...plus there are tons of people out there that need him more now than I do!!!
