Gallbladder surgery Monday...

Hey strangers, it's been awhile since I've been on here.  I've just been working on me.

Scheduled gallbladder surgery for this coming Monday.  Had a REALLY bad attack and they said it was most likely due to my rapid weight loss.  I remember hearing about this when I went to my initial consultation.  Has anyone else had to have their gallbladder removed post-surgery?

Any helpful hints/tips for after surgery?

I wondering if we can't just elect to have our gallbladder removed while we have the initial VSG.  Figures 1 surgery is better than 2!

I had mine out pre surgery. It was a really easy surgery & recovery was really easy; however like I said it was pre vsg. I was up moving right away & went back to work the next week (I'm a teacher & had it done over spring break). The only difficult part was getting up from sitting/laying.

You can only have both surgeries at the same time if there is something already wrong with the gallbladder. I do know that it is possible though bc my dr discussed it with my dad when he had vsg with him.

I made it through the initial weight loss period with no issues, only now at almost 2 years out am I beginning to have the dreaded "attacks!"  I've had 3 recently and about 8 total, and they are getting worse, but I REALLY don't want another surgery!

Most people seem to comment that having the GB out is a fairly easy surgery.  So you should be okay, and will probably feel better!  Best wishes!

I elected to have mine taken out at same time as vsg surgery because I saw how everyone on the board had mentioned that and mine isn't good anyways so might as well have 1 surgery!  I hear its easy procedure though...my friend had hers out and was eating greasy junk that she shouldnt have 2 days later...good luck!

Sorry to hear that Erin! I keep expecting the same to happen to me, but nothing so far. I hear its much easier than the VSG surgery so you should do fine. I asked my doc if we could take mine out at the same time as surgery and he said he wouldnt take it out since there was nothing wrong with it. He also said if we have to take it out later on that would be a good time to do a tummy tuck at the same time. Have you thought about that? They sometimes will give you a deal since insurance is most likely covering the gall bladder surgery and they can do this at the same time. Good luck to you!!

OH! Guess Im too late...looks like you've probably already had the surgery!! Hope it went well!!
