so as you know my surgery is scheduled for 9/7 but I have not had my sleeve class whi*****ludes the nutritional side of things....

I am purchasing things to try like greek yogurt and cottage cheese (I know I wont get these till the mushy stage) but just wondering if those are okay for sleevers?

I bought sugar free jello to try.....mio and some herseys milk that was not in the cooler section but offers 8grams of protein, but 120 calories.

Again, I have not HAD my class so I dont even know if this stuff is allowed...but I am just looking for ways to up protein since I already know I will be struggling with protein intake...

Any other suggestion of things to try (I hate to admit I have never even tried cottage cheese or greek yogurt before now lol)  or tell me if some of this is off limits

I put salt & pepper on my cottage cheese and some people add cinnamon and stevia... I like isopure drinks, and eggs :) and cheese are all good for protein

The mio and the herseys are the only things I'm concerned with and that's only because I don't know anything about them.

Your first concerns are going to be protein and water.  Getting in the right amounts of those are going to be critical.  Now keep in mind the first few days out from surgery you will likely not get in all of your required amounts of either...but just keep working towards it.  60-80 grams of protein and 64 oz of water per day will most likely be your targets.  Protein shakes will be your best friend.  Find a couple that you like post op and it will make things so much more easy for you  There are all kinds of protein adding tricks too....powdered skim milk...unflavored protein additives....  The surgery center I when through had pre packaged meals for the first 2 weeks post op which made it nice.

You're doing the right thing by trying out a few things before surgery. One thing to remember is that you might not like something post-op that you like now.

I will comment on what you've metioned buying already...

*Mio is great to flavor water and you can put as much or as little in as you want; I tend to use it sparingly because a little goes a long way.

*Sugarfree Jello is perfect and counts towards liquid intake which is very important early out from surgery.

*Greek yogurt & cottage cheese are good soft proteins but remember to buy plain varieties and not flavored (too much sugar).

*Hershey's milk isn't something I would have on hand. Even if it's sugarfree I'm betting there are way too many carbs for it to be worth the 8 grams of protein. An egg would give you 7 grams of protein and is much more nutritious.

*If you haven't already, check out the Premier Protein shakes that are ready to drink. They can be found at both Costco and Sam's Club and I think they are also at Vitamin Shoppe. One shake is 30 grams of protein and most folks find them pretty tasty.

Good luck with your nutrition classes and any pre-op testing that still needs to be done and September 7th will be here before you know it!!! Take care...

I've never tried the strawberry flavor but the chocolate is really pretty good! Let us know if you like what you ordered...

The Mio is fine,it is just a water flavor. The jello cottage cheese and greek yogurt are all fine.

The carbs in the milk might be a problem and milk in general might be a problem. ...you won't know till you are on the other side of your surgery.

Cottage cheese is kind of an acquired taste. you might get used to it and might have to try several brnds before you find one you can et. They ARE different by brands for suure.

I am a salt/pepper, salt/cumin, salt/chili powder, salt/curry in my cottage cheese kind of gal.

You hear everybody crying about how weary they are of sweet stuff, you might be like that too and enjoy yourself some cottage cheese.

Greek yogurt can be a bit strong for some folks (but I like straight up sour cream, so it does not bother me!) .. so it might be another thing that you do not/will not appreciate until you are just straight up wearified of sweet stuff!

Chocolate milk, seriously carby.  Not sure about your doctor's postop plans, but that's a lot of sugar in there that you just plain do not need.
