expensive...
so I bought my second case of pure protein today since I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday and am required to drink 2 a day. I also bought this gagalicious fiber supplement that cost $22. So wish I could take that back...ugh. Sent hubby for a new fiber supplement now....plus all the MOUNDS of vitamins I have to take daily....and the equiptment, and the copayment for surgery. I estimate by the time all is said and done I will spend about 5000 for this surgery. I know one day it will feel totally worth it, but right now it if hitting my wallet hard!
Thats all, just a little whine...I am thankful that we CAN do it, even if it make other stuff a little tighter!

Sorry it's so expensive, and venting helps with these kind of frustrations, but you are right, it is totally worth it, you are worth it.
I was told to have a multivitamin with Iron (centrum or flinstones complete chewable), have 500 mcg a day of B-12 and 500 mg calcium citrate (chewable) twice a day. These will be taken with my 60-80 g protein supplement (whey supplement preferred). I went to Maxx Muscle and we spent $200.00 and this should get me by for almost 2 months. As for any equipment...it will be me, my hallway and a lot of trips back and forth until I wear a path..lol. I can not afford expensive equipment but will utilize the local rec center once I am allowed to swim. I have a chronic issue that the surgery won't help, but may bring me some relief from so swimming is about my only way to burn calories.
The local rec center has a single membership for 24.00 a month so even with gas to get there, it's nice to have a full sized heated pool to spend a couple of hours in.
Best of luck to you and prayers too.

for equiptment I meant blenders, food processors ect lol (sorry for not clarifying) we have a gym at my apartment and I plan on utilizing that a lot! = )
Congrats on doing the pool! It is the key to my success! Exercising in water really is an effective way to burn up those calories. I do aqua jogging, aerobics, and core exercises in the deep end balanced on 2 noodles. I do at least an hour a day and more on Saturdays. Any exercise one can do in the gym, one can do in the water--NO SWEAT! LOL pun intended.
Get your vitamins and supplements at Wal-mart, Target, etc. I take 2 multivitamins, B12, iron and biotin. When you're first out, you can get generic chewables as well. The protein is what adds up for me even still. I prefer to drink a protein shake in the morning rather than eating. It is all worth it though!

If you get your items from Vitamin Shoppe, they will take back even opened packages. I think the powders in the 5 pound tubs are probably more economical in the long run. I found 1 I like and buy it that way now. I can see your concern...But you can look at this from two different angles.
There are the tangible cost Vs. Benefit side. If you look hard enough you can justify the costs.
For me the vitamins that I have to pay for is a wash Vs. the co pays that I no longer have to pay for medicines that I no longer have to use. Since I'm more active I walk to work instead of taking the subway which not only gives me additional exercise and makes me feel better but it saves me a $1,000 a year for not paying the fare. Since I eat a lot less now. I'm spending less for my meals. If I just look at what I paid for breakfast and Lunch in the city, I'm saving about $1,200 a year in my meals.
Now if you look at the intangible benefits. I've done things in the last year that I've never done before: Skiing, Snowboarding, White Water Rafting, Zip lining. These are things that you can't put a cost on. I have a new lease on life. I'll tell you that when I was finally able to ride on a roller coaster at Universal Studios with my son and when we got to the top, my son screaming at the top of his lungs that "This is the most fun I've ever had in my life"...was priceless!!!
