Sleeved and HOME.

Scootch on over, loser's bench folks, I am now on your side!

My surgery was Wednesday morning.  Unfortunately, when I came out of surgery I was so nauseous, they ended up keeping me 2 nights instead of 1.  I loved my nurses, though!  The charge nurse came in yesterday and while she was there, I vomitted the oral pain killer I had just sipped on.  She read the notes on how long I had been like this and marched to the phone to call the doctor.  She insisted he review the medicine protocol and approve something else for my nausea.  They got instant approval from him, and as soon as I was changed to the new medicine, it made a world of difference.  I am now home relaxing, and trying to get used to not revolving my world around hunger and cravings.  My mom and sister had Chick-fil-A for lunch in front of me while I was sipping on my 2 tbsp of chicken broth.  Didn't bother me a bit!!

I am a little sleepy, but I walked so much in the hospital that I haven't felt much gas pain in the past few hours.

I am so happy I made this decision!  Thank you to every one for your stories and the truths about the reality of this experience.

Congrats on your new cover-up (sleeve).  I haven't had mines done yet but anticipate it sometime in November (need to complete the 6 mos nutritional program). I see that you are in *******s, GA. May I ask who your doctor is? I am in search of a new doctor with several sleeve ops under his/her belt. Someone did refer me to DR Macik – wondering if that’s yours too.

Yep, my surgeon is Dr. Macik, and I cannot speak highly enough about him.  He was there at every step of the process, and I saw him every day I was in the hospital.  I ended up staying 2 nights instead of the 1 we originally thought, but he was very clear that he wanted me to have my nausea and pain under control before sending me home to prevent any future ER visits.

My best piece of advice is to follow his plan step by step.  You will see results, and you will be prepared for life after the sleeve.  He is also very in touch with the nurses at Northside who will call him without hesitation if they feel your plan of action for pain control or nausea needs to change.  He even stopped by this morning at 8 am to see how I was doing, and he signed my discharge papers right then.

You will not be disappointed with Dr. Macik.

Congratulations on being sleeved!! It sounds like you were taken care of very well while you were in the hospital.  I too experienced alot of vomitting right out of surgery, kind of scary!  Thats great you have had minimal gas pain, keep on walking and sipping :)

BIG BIG BIG Congratulations!    We are only a day apart and I'm so happy to be home.  A few aches and pains, but nothing I didn't expect.  Water and protein going down well.  So happy for you!

I have to say the worst part was the swallow test after surgery.  That's when the vomit began, and they kept pushing me to "gulp" the fluid and I told them I couldn't.  Then I gulped like they told me, and guess what happened?  The poor student helping had to run to get a bin before I threw up all over their machine. lol.  I was aiming right at the tech that was telling me to take bigger swallows.  I wish they were a little more knowledgeable that I can't "gulp" large amounts of fluid, especially the DAY of surgery...my poor tummy.

Feeling better now, though!  Hallelujah!
