New-Not having fun with Pre-op liquid diet

Hi,  I'm new here.

I am looking forward to having my surgery on the 14th.

I am not having fun with this pre-op liquid diet.  I might eat someone's hand off.  I really hate how every time I turn around someone is eating, or there is an add for food on the TV, and it looks really good, and I can't have any.  How on earth am I going to get through the least two days of the clear liquid diet?  I wish that I could make time go faster and get to the 14th right now.

At least today was easier than the first day of this diet.

At least I can distract myself with movies on iTunes and reading books (while my family eats dinner).  At least I can close my office door (so I don't smell everyone's lunch).

At least this will end.

Welcome! I too was on a 2 week pre-op diet and am still on liquids post-op. It has been a month for me so believe me - I feel your pain! I used the pre-op time to get as many samples as I could for different proteins from MyBariatricPantry.com and Amazon.com. I experimented during this time and that really helped give me a lot of variety. I didn't always care much for the product but I had a lot of variety. Be sure to use every different kind of flavor and texture you are allowed, such as sf jello, different flavors of broth and different protein shakes. Read past posts from others struggling with the pre and post-op liquid diets. Use the search tool in the upper right corner to help with this. Good luck!

Well you know WE can identify with that pre op diet. I swear this one IS the test of our commitment LOL

What I did was "smell" the foods around.. and enjoy those smells. NOTHING was going to deter me from my goal.
AND I kept busy.. went places so I was not around food..skipped through commercials (DVR).

YOU can do it.. do this for yourself..it will get better. I even learned to love jello (to me thats for sick people LOL).

YOU DESERVE THIS..keep your mind on the prize!! YOU

Warmly, Jan

I just joined this forum- I'm on the pre op diet too. This is day 5 for me and my surgery is on the 8th-
just 3 more days. It's been really hard - I admit and reading posts from here has really helped to take my mind off of the hunger. I"m just allowed liquids pretty much and sugar free popsicles and  jello. Hang in there- this part will soon be over and you will be on your way to success with your goals.

Good luck with your surgery.  I'll be thinking of you.  I'm sure it will go well.

What are you going to do for new clothes, once you get some of the weight off?  I realized the other day that it will be a problem, since I don't want to buy several wardrobes.

Thanks for the great support everyone!  I appreciate it.  Since it is evening, I am almost through another day.  This is day 7.  It wasn't so bad this morning.  I had a couple of cups of tea before I really felt like breakfast.  I had my breakfast shake about 1.5 hours after I got up, since I really wasn't hungry until then.  I am finding that the evenings are the most difficult.  Maybe because that is when I tended to eat the most frequently.  I don't really know for sure.

I have my pre-op visit with Dr. Hoehn on Wednesday.  Can't wait to get there.

Hope you all are doing well.

I was thinking of hitting the thrift stores for when I start losing a good bit- I don't see the point in
spending a lot of money for in between sizes that won't fit for long.. wonder if any sites have a clothing exchange? We will have plenty of nice clothes to get rid of shortly.

I was thinking along the same lines.  But I am a little afraid that they won't have anything for my bigger in-between sizes.  I think a clothing swap is a good idea.  I wonder if my doctor knows about any.  I'll ask when I am there on Wednesday.

Right there with you ladies. My surgery is on the 13th. It's true. I never noticed how much food is advertised on tv, in the store, on billboards. It has made me very aware how bombarded we are with food!!! I plan on reading, cleaning, walking, whatever it takes to get me through the next week. Hang in there buddies. We can do this!!!!
