First Social Eating Experience - Day 5

My two best friends (the only ones I'd told about the surgery) wanted to see me and bring food for my partner.  They asked me what I could have and I told them I was on liquids, not to worry, to bring what they wanted.

They brought wonderful Indian food from a nearby restaurant and brought me their chicken soup.  I looked at it suspiciously, but it smelled fantastic.  I strained it, defatted it as best I could, and (when they weren't looking) thinned it 50:50 because it was spicier than anything I'd eaten so far.  Not your boxed chicken broth, that's for sure!  I saved the chicken and veggies I'd strained out and put them in the freezer for later, and ate about 8 ounces of broth.

It was wonderful.  We had a great social evening catching up and I didn't feel deprived.  I had several moments of missing certain foods, but I told myself I'd had major surgery, risked my life to change my life, and damn that soup was fine!

Then we went to the TV room and I wrote an email to several of my other friends to tell them about the surgery.  Life is good!

8oz???? Wholly cow, I eat about 2-2.5oz before my sleeve gives me its SIGN...And if I try to take another bite I'm miserable for an hour while it swears at me....at least I think thats what its doing!

Glad to hear you had a nice time with friends...it truly is nuts just how much life revolves around food, my mom doesn't know how to comfort me since she can't use food...so funny.

CongratsssssGlad you had a great time with friends. I myself was at my friend's last night and they cooked out oh the smells and the food looked good but I am on liquids lol.  It was hard for a sec then I got some broth and felt better.  I drank about 8 oz. myself, slowly.  I think liquids but go in and out or so I am hoping.  I mean broth is counted as liquid.  I'm hoping the 2- 3oz. other people speak of and the ristriction you feel is when you get to more solid food or mushes cause I haven't felt the your full feeling yet and I hope I am not gonna be able to eat more than suppsed to.  I can get my liquids down just fine, almost like before surgery but I haven't tried to gulp yet.     Kerry

When I was on liquids I could drink 8oz easily.   Now that I'm on solid food there is definitely restriction.  If you can drink easily feel luck (or so I'm told), because that means there's no reason for you to become dehydrated (just keep drinking).

Good Luck to both of you!!

Oh, yes, after straining and defatting (through a paper towel) and mixing with equal parts water, it was definitely just warm, tasty chicken broth.  Nothing solid for miles!  Plus, I sipped on it for about 40 minutes.

Great job babygirl!

This has been a saving thought of mine when eating seriously yummy delights:

"Nobody was ever glad they took that last bite."

:}  I do not have any full signals like folks talk about, but when we are out to eat, if I think "okay, just one last bite and then be done, B" I then think "nobody was ever glad they took that last bite" and pu**** away.

I will also dump something on it and put the napkin on it and pu**** far away if its something that I might just pick at if I keep it near me and as is.

Some day those certain foods may be back!  But some is enough!  yyaaay!
