In at 7:45am (Surgery at 9:45am) on 8/24 and was (finally) released at about 4:30pm on 8/26.

My surgeon's SOP is 1-2 nights, depending on how you do after surgery.  I had some pretty horrid nausea and vomiting, so he kept me the second night.  (I finally made the connection that pain meds=uncontrollable nausea...no matter WHAT anti-nausea meds they were pushing.  Once I refused all pain meds, the nausea went away!)

On the 26th, the floor doc made the call that she was going to keep me one additional night because of the nausea I had the first two days...and my response was "LIKE HELL!"  My surgeon backed me up - - all of this was around noon.  Still, the floor doc (pouting at being overruled) didn't get around to releasing me until late afternoon.

First of all good luck and well wishes for your surgery and recovery.

I was told by my surgeon that he releases all pts with the Sleeve in 24 hours. Hmm.. ok. But I started to vomit the first night after feeling this awful burning and like "something" was building up up up to my esophagus. I asked if this was acid reflux..then POW.. I just moved and it came out.

I did NOT have pain meds, NO pain, NO gas bubbles to work out either..slightly tender ONLY if I pushed on my tummy. I could get up without pain and even vomiting did not hurt. Felt so lucky. I could walk walk walk..but.. I could not seem to get anything through my sleeve. So I was on and off NPO for 6 days. Got home.. the first full day and whalla.. the SAME burning and vomiting on ONLY water/ice.
Now I am 4.5 weeks out.. and STILL cannot tolerate denser foods. See the surgeon on Monday to find out what to do next. I can tolerate blended soups, sometimes cottage cheese, but something seems to get "stuck" with denser foods..and stays that way for HOURS!!!

Don't want to freak you (or anyone else out) I feel fine..just cannot seem to get HYDRATED..and its getting more serious now.

So with that YOUR recovery will most likely go much more smoothly

Hugs, Jan

I went in on Friday at 6am and left on Monday at 11am.  He was going to release me on Sunday, but I had a lot of problems trying to drink any water on Saturday so he said he couldn't release me, as I wouldn't be able to stay hydrated. Sunday & Monday were a "breeze" though.

I was told I'd have an over night stay but since I had no pain and was able to keep the jello, and sugar free popsicle down they let me go home same day. Surgery was at 730am, went home around 830pm. Good luck!

I spent 24 hours in the hospital. I couldn't wait to get out! Like you I lived 2hrs away so I was asked to stay 2 nights in a hotel also. After the first night I felt so good and just wanted to be home I left. 6 months later I still haven't even thrown up once. Don't forget to walk. Good luck!
