I have about 2 months left on my diet and im more nervous everyday. Do they give you a sedative in the hospital to calm your nerves before you go back for surgery?? i will be a mess!

You sound exactly like me, I told them at my pre-op I would like to have a Valium saltblock to lick as I came in the hospital, when you are in the holding area before surgery at least where I am at, they are good to give you something like some Versed to calm you down as soon as they are through asking questions and getting you ready, actually it is so busy for awhile you really don't think about things much, but they make sure you are pretty much in an "I don't care" mood before wheeling you into the OR, I pray that you will do well and that you will start to have a peace about things that will last right through surgery and recovery. It is perfectly normal to be scared! Good luck!

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I keep hoping that i am one of the lucky ones and dont have any problems! I see that you just had a revision done a couple of days ago? What has your experience been like so far?

I feel like I have done better this time than when I had the lapband put in, my pain has been minimal and I have been up doing a lot more than I thought I would. I get my drain out on Friday and I am hoping that he will give me the go ahead to start driving, we'll see! I am sure things will go well for you too, I am older a,t 48, and have a lot of pre-existing health problems that had to be dealt with too, so keep your chin up!

I was nervous too, but everyone was so nice and I was very busy getting prepared. There was very little sitting and waiting, so I didn;t have that much time to think about worrying. I really got nervous when they started the IV but it was very shortly after that that the meds started and I remember NOTHING from about 10 minutes after IV to waking up in recovery. The pain meds for the next few days kept me a very happy girl so that was good.

Just focus on the after. Think about what will be and don't think about the in-between. Stay away from detailed accounts of surgeries and stories about things that went wrong. I am sure you are well enough informed at this point that more reading about that stuff won't help but will only make you nervous. You have made your decision, you know it is the right one, so focus on getting to AFTER. Everything will be fine, the odds are HIGHLY in your favor. In a few months, you will be sitting here, like me, reassuring someone else and being super-excited because of the 30, 40, 50 lbs you have lost since surgery!!! Think about the future as if it is already here and don't think about that short little period where the surgery happens. You will sail on through and be so glad you did!
