Don't do what I suggest if it goes against your surgeon's guidelines, but I didn't worry about protein grams until I was a month out and able to start a little bit of solid food.  I made it my goal in life to stay hydrated -- sip sip sip all day long.

That said, I drank nothing that was carby or sugary.  There are Crystal Light mixes that have a little bit of protein, and I drank chicken broth constantly (the organic kind in the boxes, not canned, which is foul).

The shakes I liked best were Slimfast low carb.  Some of the others weren't awful, but Slimfast was the only one I liked well enough to keep it up.  As soon as you can have mushies, greek yogurt has lots of protein.  I know that is milky, but it isn't the same as a shake, and you can flavor it how you like it.

Just keep sipping.  You will find what works for you, and before you know it you will be able to eat soft stuff and will have many more options.  Best wishes :-)

I definitely stay hydrated....well over about 80oz of fluids a day. Mostly with Poweraid Zero and broths.... =) Thanks for the tips..

Have you been able to drink the isopure?  It is what got me through when I wasn't quite sure I could drink the protein shakes.  I only like the grape.  Hope you can find something to help.

I am a week ahead of you and I still can't tolerate anything too thick.  I used to mix my protein shakes with milk and ice  pre op.  so that is what I tried.... .yeah does not work.

I have to have my stuff really thinned down.  My surgeon recommends Metagenics Bariatic Essenstials Bariatic meal.  It is recommended 1 scoop to 4 oz....  I have to do 1 sccop to about 10 oz.  with water and then some ice.  I am only getting in 1/2 of protein requirements right now, but its better than one.

I have asked my surgeon about other protein shakes and she says they are CRAP  (i.e Nectar, Premier, IsoPure)  and also full of artificial sweeteners

I would used what your doctor has recommended.  and then try to thin it down.

I drink mine very cold, I understand some can not handle that on their tummys, but maybe make them into a frozen ice cube and try it that way?  Good luck, I know it's frustrating, but it will get better.

I knew that I would be tired of the traditional choc, vanilla and strawberry so I ordered a sample pack of all the flavors.  The twisted cherry and crystal sky are my 2 favorites with the lemonade and grapefruit coming in close behind.  They mix great with water just add a little ice when mixing complete or it will become lumpy.  The flavors actually taste more like crystal light and you get 25 grams of protein with only 90 calories.

Good luck,
Chelle

Aww Hun...I feel for you!! I was lactose intolerant long before my surgery, so when it came to protein drinks, they did the same thing to me as well and still do. Even almond milk gives me issues...it just doesn't sit in my stomach well. Now that I'm 8 months out, I carefully plan out my menu's for the day to get my protein from food only.

I did notice you're just a little over a week out. Your new tummy is still healing! This issue will get better with time. I know what helped me is, when I got to move to full liquids, I added Unjury unflavored protein to what I could eat. Since I am so lactose intolerent, I couldn't do fat free cream soups like many do. I found what worked for me was Butternut Squash Soup, Broccoli Soup, Tomato and broth based soups. You could also try greek yogurt with some protein powder in it. This menu was approved by my nurse since I had so many struggles with a non dairy restriction. I realise that there are some carbs in these choices, and I'll probably get beat up for telling you to do some carbs, but with the tiny amount you're eating and needing some fuel to function, this is what worked best for me. I am sure you'll get other solutions as well.

The bottom line...make sure you stay hydrated, and get what you can in for protein. You'll be fine!! As you progress and are able to eat a little more normally, this will get better. Please feel free to friend me and ask questions if you have them!!

Thanks everyone for all the tips....

I am not a fan of Nectar...
Pre-Surgery I really liked my Pure Protein Shakes with Milk, but now I just get so FULL! I have a ton of Unjury sampler packs the hospital gave me (thought no broth) so I will start playing with them.

Hubby is going to Vitamin Shoppe today so I will have him pick me up a few singles of different brands in Clear.
