Low blood Sugar?!?!?!
So… Im feeling really good over all. BUT… obviously theres a but right.… I have been having these episodes of shakiness. Like feeling weak and shaky. My hands will shake so badly I cant hold anything. It seems to happen when I haven't eaten in a while so Ill eat and after about 20 - 30 minutes I feel better. It doesn't even seem to matter what I eat to fix it. I felt like this when I had gestational diabetes. I will be 8 months out tomorrow and have been at goal for months. I still do one shake a day and only eat 3 meals per day… as per my surgeons directions. I did labs before my tummy tuck two months ago and every thing seemed normal but they were run by my plastics guy so I am not sure what he was looking for exactly. Any ideas?

Sounds like Hypoglycemia...I've struggled with it forever but seems worse now that I eat so little...

I go through something similar if I forget to eat. I have tested my blood with my husband's tester, and I have been on the low side but not dangerously so. Just as a note, my A1C at my 6 month bloodwork was 5.1 suggesting my average blood sugar (fasting, aftermeals, etc) over 3 months was about 90-100
I don't have hunger per se; so, if I forget to eat the shakes, etc., are my signal. Keeping carbs low helps. The more you spike your blood sugar with carbs the more it will drop in response. Protein coverts to blood glucose more slowly that either carbs or fat. Eating protein multiple times a day is the best way to keep on an even keel.
One study I read suggests that up to 20% of VSG patients suffer from reactive hypoglycemia similar to RNY patients after eating sugar/carbs. I don't do much n the way of carbs; so, mine isn't 'reactive' per se.

My dietician said not to go more than 4 hours without eating. ALWAYS have protein with carbs. Reactive hypoglycemia (symptoms like yours) are being found in VSG patients, due to increased transit time of food through the sleeve. If you had not eaten for more than 4 hours, then your symptoms were most likely due to low blood sugar. Make sure that you eat every 4 hours.

Darlin... sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia. I've developed it as well. You basically need to make sure you eat something every 2-3 hours preferrably protein. The shakes is low blood sugar. Not fun... it sux... but it's actually pretty common in the WLS community. Usually hits when we're in maintenance mode and the body adjusts to the new norm. Just make sure you're eating something (doesn't hafta be a full meal... just a good 10g of protein will do) every 2-3 hours and you'll avoid the sugar drop shakes.
Either that or you're experiencing heroine withdrawals.... one or the other.... just sayin...
