What does it cost ?
Hey
I'm having surgery 10/10 and the hosp. called today to get my portion of the payment . No one other then the nut had discussed the fees with me and i have paid her as my insurance didn't cover any of her fees. The Hosp said there portion is about 12,000 for the 2 night stay but i haven't heard from anesthesiologist or the surgeon on there fees.
So if you could tell me what your costs looked like or are going to look like that would be great so i have some idea what to expect, hope its not to personnel a question
I had the gastric sleeve in March 2011. My total out of pocket for the hospital was about $1300 (I had to have a filter implanted in my vein due to heart problems). My total to the surgeon was about $750. I've paid the surgeon, and have about 4 payments left to the hospital. Anesthesiologist cost was $4.80. I am part of the Pilot Program for the state of SC.
The hospital called me and did that, too. I just asked if I could be billed afterwards, and they said that was fine. I have 80/20 insurance coverage with a $500 deductible and a $2500 out of pocket maximum. I tracked it all online thru United Healthcare as the bills came in. I had 3 bills, the surgeon, the hospital and the anethesiologist. My portion of the surgeon bill ended up being $600 or so, he bille $3500. The hospital....they billed $24,000 to my insurance, and the "allowable" amount that UHC agreed to cover was about $3500 (hospital had to write off the rest), of that, I had to pay about $600 again. And the anesthesilogist was $650. So I had to pay about $1800 total, whi*****luded my $500 deductible. And one thing to ask the hospital once you receive your bill from them, is about financial assistance. Not sure if this is everywhere or not, but all I did was call the hospital, they asked for mine and my husbands income, the # of dependants (we have 2 kids) and we got 55% wrote off, so they dropped "my" portion of the $600 to around $200 something! It's crazy. You can be at like 4x the poverty level and still get a discount. So for a family with two kids, if you make under about $90k, you qualify. Just something to look into. Most people assume if they make a decent amount, they won't qualify. But that isn't necessarily true.
In march of this year, Airfare, passport, hospital, surgery, and docs $7700 was my full cost (I have no insurance). But I went to mexico.
BTW I spent ten days in hospital in Arkansas for blood infection (not related to WL surgery) and my cost for that was $15000. $12000 for two days seems very high.
