First of all take a deep breath.  You did not gain 5lbs.  I had to be escorted from a store because 10 scales told me the same thing a couple of weeks ago.  I don't weigh and I'd gone in sure I'd lost weight.  After that i went for a follow up to my Dr and that weight was gone plus more.  your body is still recalibrating and I'd say (and i know it will be hard) stop weighing until after your 6 week follow up.  You know that if it's not going in it can't be going on, intellectually.  You also know that this will pass and the fear that you will be the one person that will not benefit from 85% of her stomach being pulled out is also not reasonable at this early stage.  Even the people who feel the surgery have failed them had initial weight loss it just stopped.  So dry the tears and put away the scale because it will be your friend but it is not right now.  I know most people drop a ton in the  early stages.  Most is not all.  Everyone's weight loss pattern is different.  Unless you're packing 3500 cals a day into your little organ you are not gaining weight at 4 weeks.  Lock that scale away.

The same g*ddamn thing happened to me too! I was 279 on 10/28 and 283 on 11/1!! This mushy stage is kicking my ass. I had a rough weekend, I was visiting family and eating out and it seemed like the only stuff that would work was salty carby stuff like mashed potatoes! I have not touched them since and I'm not gonna! My mainstays are refried beans and egg drop soup. The soup is high protein but prolly high sodium as well. I'm getting easily 64 oz fluids a day, not counting the soup.

I think when we can have dense protein and restriction some of this will work itself out.

And I know as a new postop I shouldn't weigh. I only weigh at the gym, but after all this and seeing so many people here posting, "I'm x weeks out and I've lost xx lbs" it's hard not to!

Thank you all for letting me know it's not just me!
