Muscle Milk- ugh any suggestions?
I guess you get used to the taste. I've been drinking Shakeology (green & choc) for a year or so and love them. Just purchased the Muscle Milk light ready made 8.5 oz, 20 grams protein and I really like them. I also purchased a case of the Premier Nutrition ready made 11 oz, 30 grams protein which is less expensive than Muscle Milk and it tastes just like Muscle Mike. Really like it! Good luck finding the one you like but remember you get used to them quickly and will like it in no time.
Most of these manufacturers make a variety of products with different blends and tastes/flavors, and yet more varieties when they make special runs for big retailers like Costco - what they make for Costco or WalMart as "from the makers of..." may not be the same thing as they sell under their own label. I have had some Muscle Milk powder from Costco, in a 6 lb bag (23g protein per scoop), that was just awful, and then some other blend made by them, a somewhat higher end product (26g protein per scoop, in a 3 lb tub for not much less than the 6lb bag) that was pretty good. Several of the Muscle Milk products I have seen are down in the 15-16g per scoop (each scoop being somewhere in the 100-150 calorie range) which I don't bother with just because they are too low in protein for their calories - I want at least 20g of protein for that caloric load, but that's just me.
My general preference on powders these days are the EAS ones that I get at Target and other retailers. It's 23g protein and 130calories per scoop, is fairly delicately flavored without a lot of objectionable "protein drink" taste. I mix it with skim milk and can add a little unsweetened cocoa or SF syrup to it to boost the chocolate flavor, and sometimes a little peppermint extract to make it chocolate mint. I also use this blend, or one like it, to mix in with other powders that I have rejected for use on their own (like that ghastly Costco Muscle Milk stuff.)
I've seen that new Muscle MIlk bag at Costco recently, but rejected it as being too low of a protein mix for their calories - I'm glad that it's reject-worthy on the flavor front, too (tho not glad for you!) Try blending your rejected leftover with other powders and flavors and see if that makes it down-able.
Good luck,
