I'd use either Almond Milk ($$) or water.

Do you use chocolate protein? You can make it richer for a lot less carbs by adding a teaspoon or so of cocoa powder.

Soy Milk Light - Vanilla mixed with Chocolate Unjury protein.   I drink one almost every morning for breakfast.

I just tried soy milk for the first time ever and threw it in my whey chocolate protein shake. OMG so decadent!!! I usually make mine with water (tastes like YooHoo, which isn't necessarily a good thing) but I think I might use soy milk to change it up. I'm normally a 1% milk drinker, but wasn't crazy about the milk with the protein shake. I could NOT believe how good the light soy milk is with the protein.

I usually use water with extra cocoa in my chocolate mix.  The milk seems to be too much for me to drink.  Fills me up too much.

Trying splitting the difference----50% water and 50% milk. See if it's less uber gross....then go to 75/25 to see if that works.

BTW---Love my RTD Lean Body Shakes---tastes like melted ice cream to me. But the powder works fine too.

I keep about half a dozen brands/flavors of protein powders around, for variety. I use water for all of them except one (strawberry) that just doesn't taste right with water. For that one I use low-fat milk.
