I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet furry family member.  I have heard about Sassy's story.  It is said to be a native american belief that your most loved pet will meet you when you die and guide you to heaven.  I've found great comfort in that story.  You gave Casey a loving home and she gave you the gift of telling you when it was time.   Sending love to you and your family.

We also had to put our dog down a couple of months ago. It was sad but definately for the best. He was also a rescue dog. He lived in a puppy mill and we believe was abused. He was between seven and ten years old when we got him according to the vet and I know that his last few years were great ones so even though it is a hard thing to do, just remember that you gave him a good end of life and now you are doing what is best for him again.

Do not ask God to guide your footsteps if you're not willing to move your feet.

The pic with Matty is so precious!  I have a soft spot for little blonde haired boys and big dogs!

It's obvious you gave her a wonderful home when others would've thrown her away.

I am sure she is in heaven waiting for you and your family so that she will someday (hopefully a long, long time from now) be able to lick your face and welcome you to paradise.

Big hugs to you for giving this girl the love she deserved.

So sorry to read this :( I think it's wonderful that you and your family were able to provide Casey with a few years of life that were happy and loving. We also recently lost our dog. She was 18...she was arthritic and deaf but still played with my 2 year old daughter like she was a puppy. On Labor Day it was slightly cooler than it had been and that always made her frisky. She got up to go out early that morning and ran around outside and was running back inside the house when she slipped on our basement steps that are beside our back door and fell all the way down them. She sustained a head injury and passed away 4 hours later at home - there was nothing the vet could do.

I know today is going to be very tough for you, but you're doing the right thing. When it comes down to no quality of life, decisions have to be made, even when they break our hearts.

Take care,

~Micah

I am so sorry for your Casey. I also have a dog with seizures and know how hard it is to watch them go through that. (Hugs)

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.
