Ridiculously Nervous Now!

Hi everyone, I am pretty new to posting things so bare with me. I am approved and my surgery date is 12/21/11! I am nervous but excited at the same time. Will they give anxiety meds in the hospital before the surgery? Another concern is does almost everyone that has this surgery have to get plastics done? So far just about everyone I know has had to or they have a tremendous amount of loose skin that makes it look like they havent lost any weight!

Please help! Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone know if you can have fruit in your shakes the first 2 weeks as long as it is blended all the way?

I am right there will you on being a little terrified!  My surgery is in 5 days and I haven't had a moment since I was approved by the insurance company that I haven't wondered if I'm doing the right thing, or thinking about backing out.  As for the skin issue, with you only having to loose less than 100 lbs, I think you should be fine.  I am also in the same boat, I am hoping that with working out that the skin will shrink with the fat!

Good luck to you!

Every hospital/surgeon is different, but they explicitly told us during our nutrition counceling course (which also included a very thorough overview of the surgery day) that they would administer anxiety meds through our IV as soon as we've talked to our anesthesiologist.

I've not yet had the surgery (scheduled for Dec. 22) so I can't comment on the loose skin issue.

Good luck!

I am about one week ahead of you and I am also anxious. . . .I guess this is normal.

They didn't give me anxiety meds. It is perfectly normal to feel the way you feel. My wife is getting her surgery on the 22nd so I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. As far as plastics go it depends on what your goals are. If you want to look good with clothes on and don't have so much folds of skin that you don't have rashes and fungus growing than the answer is no. However if you want to add the icing to the cake so to speak and look and feel sexy with and without clothes on then yes. Excess skin kind of sucks, but its the body's reminder of how unhealthy we really were. As I get closer to goal I have decided that I will get plastic surgery. Having to lose a little under 200 pounds has some definite lose skin consequences.

When I got nervous pre-op, I would look at the before and after pics, made me feel better.  As far as loose skin and plastics, I look better naked now than 80 pounds ago!  I would rather have that skin deflated than full of fat.  I will need plastic surgery, but I'm starting to lookk forward to it!
They will give you anti anxiety meds in pre-op.  I was so happy to be there that I didn't need them.  I couldn't have fruit in my shakes the first 2 weeks.  Fruit has so much sugar that I'm avoiding it during the weight loss phase.
Ask you doctor and nutritionist about food post op to get the best answer.
