Hi, can anyone help with finding a good shopping list of items that we should look into getting for the first couple of weeks after surgery?
Thanks,
Rhonda

I'm in the pre-surgery diet phase now so I can't comment with any authorite on the post-op items.  Here's what my nutritionist recommended for both:

PRE-OP (avoid rices, pastas, beans, peas and starchy veggies):
lean meats
non-starchy veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts, carrots)
skim milk
protein powders

POST-OP (really ramp up the protein):
1st 2 weeks (liquids only)

Mootopia (to replace the skim milk b/c it's very high in protein)
protein powders
broths (includes options to add protein powders to it)
Crystal Light drink packets
starting the 3rd week (mushies)
Fage yogurt (can be added to protein drinks as well)
Sugar Free Applesauce
Sugar Free Jello or Pudding (you can make this w/the Mootopia for an added punch to the protein)
Oatmeal - VERY thinned out, should be real oats, not instant if possible

Hope this helps!  GL!

Mootopia is a milk alternative that is extremely high in protein.  So, as a VSGer, you'll need all the protein you can get your hands on post-surgery.  It's a little pricey ($3.50 per 1/2 gallon here), but you get what you pay for!
