A longtime friend visited me yesterday. She said wow you look great. I said thanks so do you. She then said I dont look as great as you, but "you had help from surgery"...

I starrred at her for a solid minute and said nothing. My goal was to give her an opportunity to correct herself. She tried "I dont mean to be negative", "you know what I mean"... I stared , then I offered her something to drink.

I did not feel like validating her BS with responses, good or bad. Weight wise, she is where I used to be. I figured she needed to make herself feel better all be it at my expense.

Look I dont feel bad because I had my eye lasered to correct my vision, why should I feel bad because I had my stomach sleeved. my life, my choices, my success!!!

Don't let her get to you! I am not telling anyone about the surgery because of the extreme negativity toward it with most of my friends. I know EXACTLY what you're feeling!! Everyone says that surgery is taking the 'easy way out' but boy, are they ever wrong! There is NOTHING easy about this process!

Just keep up the good work and ignore the negativity!

I wonder if people just say this kind of stuff because they don't know what to say...I just don't get the jealousy thing. Why can't people be happy for us instead of trying to weigh us down with negativity and snide remarks?!?? I actually had a "friend" tell me not to get too excited about my upcoming surgery because statistics show that ALL weight loss surgeries ultimately fail...WTH...I asked for that data so I could look it over and she stared at me like I was crazy, LOL!

Sometimes people can be such jerks without even realizing it. YOU had the courage to do something to improve YOU! The sleeve is just a tool, you are still putting it to work, you should have told her, "If you think I'm more fabulous than you now, just wait 'til you see me this summer"

I think you did the right thing by not even responding to her. She knows what she said and is probably still thinking about the whole incident herself.

I am learning to ignore people since the sleeve. Lots of folks will say anything without thinking it may be offensive
