l told my nut yesterday that l've been eating 8-1000 cal/daily, and under 40 carbs.  She said it's not enough - to up it to 1300.  And 130 gms of carb for brain & muscle health.  Now this contradicts everything l've been dong and have learned on here.   She said if l go too low carb l'll have a hard time keeping the weight off, also.  Thoughts?!.....

Everyone is different. Some can lose eating that many carbs/calories and others cant. You need to be aware of how your body functions best. 1300 cals and 130 gm pro seems high for losing phase, but if you are a male exercising a lot that may not be enough. Seems like most people here follow a lower carb diet and keep calories under 1000 for wt loss. Only you will know what works for you.

130??? Like One hundred thirty?

Holy ****! Just slap that fat on my stomach.

Even on a normal day before surgery I couldn't get CLOSE to 130 grams without eating a bunch of unhealthy crap.

That's crazy. jmo.

When I was 3 months out, I went to a different NUT than normally and she told me to up my calories to 1200.   The "regular" NUT never said that, and I did not do it.   Not a lot of emphasis put on carbs by my NUT, but they did say a carb is a carb, all the same.   (I.E., no "good" vs. "bad" carbs.)
I know for me, personally, I need at least 800 calories a day or I don't feel "right".   Kinda lethargic I guess.
I am 1# under goal, but still want to lose a few more.   But, I am not trying as hard now.   At almost 9 months out, I eat more calories than I did, but almost always under 1,000.
As far carbs, I don't think I have ever eaten 130 in a day since surgery, but I often eat over 40.
What does your Dr. say?

I have no idea how to reply to you except to point you to the post you just made with your amazing loss and your beautiful picture.  You already know what I think about this issue.  PM me if you want to hear my real opinion on this.  In the end, the decision is all yours.

I'm certainly not a Vet but I am in the maintenance phase and doing beautifully.  The nutritionist at my doc's office was perfectly fine with my 800 cals and under 40 carbs during the losing phase, but all nutritionists, like all people, differ.  I totally disagree with 130 gm of carbs, jeesh!  Is this person new?  Is he/she talking about normal people?  We are definitely not normal.  Because of our obesity, we have to eat less to maintain and lose than a "normie" that has never been obese.  This is a proven fact.  You could try to up your calories and see if it works for you, but I felt strongly about choosing the path others had taken before me that were successful.  Good luck on your decision and your journey.

Thanks for the input!  l am not comfortable going up that high at all.    l, too have decided to follow the plan that has proven to work for those before me - they've LIVED it.  l wanted to put this out there to show the differences in nut's plans... hopefully the good advice here will help others, too.

I tend to agree with the majority of this. Although, I average anywhere between 800-1300 cals per day....most often, I'm around 1100....1300 would be a bit much for me. Carbs...130 is no issue for me...I'm usually around 110-120 WITHOUT eating any crap. Keep in mind though....I'm not a protein junky...I eat sensible meals with carbs included.

Also, keep in mind...your cals required with greatly vary depending on your activity level. So, yes, I tend to take in more cals on days that I am more active than usual.

Ask her if she uses the government standards. If she says yes, you're done. Can't work around that stuff.

There is some belief in the fitness world that low calories will kill you or somehow turn you into a zombie. My ex thinks he's Mr. Fitness and told me that if I was eating less than 1500 calories a day I was starving my body and it was eating itself.

Well um YEAH it's eating my fat stoopid.

At any rate my SURGEON says 800-1000 is FINE. I'd believe him over a NUT any day

And I've got plenty of energy. And that's why we eat so much protein so the body attacks the fat.

l have no plans on adding that much more to my diet - l am very comfortable with my plan. That many carbs - l'd be going crazy!  l'm also not very active right now because of my torn ankle tendon and l hurt my knee doing lunges a couple of weeks ago - yep - l overdid it!  So l don't need that much at all.   l feel good, l don't crave, and l can keep a hande on it the way l've been doing it.  l just was in shock that she said this!!
